Rainforst and Spa Pass Question

^^I hear you. I was trying to offer a possible reason for this auto-charge. It may have seemed like I was defending it, which is not my intention!

And for anyone who cares about the numbers, it's $16 for Rainforest daily pass with the auto-gratuity making it $18.88 total.

Thank you all so much for such detailed responses. Im sailing on the Dream so hopefully will be little less noisey than the Wonder.

Thank you all!

No, your guess could be right on the money. I'm just saying if that is DCL/Steiner's justification for the auto-gratuity (the two minutes you spend with the front desk staff), that's pretty lame.

We got the length of cruise pass on the Fantasy last year and will get it again when we sail 9/26. For us, it was very much worth it. We used the Rainforest Room once or twice a day. Nothing like a bracing hit of Siberian Night after a workout and some time in the sauna!

When I was on the Dream in May we purchased day passes from the reps that were present during our concierge meeting. All I wanted was a single day pass for $16 or whatever it was but got conned into some day pass with a scrub that was like $30. Regardless, it was fun for about 30 minutes but wasn't my cup of tea and was glad I didn't get the length of cruise pass.

My understanding (I might be wrong) is that they charge the auto 18% gratuity on product sales also.

I'm still trying to decide whether I should buy the length of cruise pass for our oct 31 Western Caribbean on the fantasy sailing... Or whether I should buy perhaps just 2 days each for DH and I? I am worried if I don't purchase the length of cruise pass I may regret it -- being as we are sailing concierge and getting on the ship fairly early I am guessing I would have a good chance at purchasing one. I'll be thinking about this one a bit more, but I am considering it!

I think that is true. I did the Men's Shave & Scalp/Hand Massage (on Pete's recommendation), and I am pretty sure the $180 jar of Elemis Men's Mousturizer she sold me had the auto-gratuity on it.

I have a long internal debate about this every year... so many people rave about the Rainforest Room on the DIS, but I just feel like it's not something I'd use. And then I convince myself that I'm totally missing out on something awesome, and talk myself into it. And out of it. And into it... Has anyone tried it that was skeptical and loved it?

that would be me. I thought about it and didn't, then thought about it on the next cruise and didn't. finally a friends mother won two passes at bingo. while my friend and her kids took dh on an excursion, friends mom and I went and I loved it. have not gone without passes since.
having said that, the thing I like most about it is the quiet. I use the tile beds and read......and sleep. those things relax you soooo much. course my snore snort wakes me up :faint:. i'm sure it wakes everyone else up to.
I say try it once. if you pre order all your going to lose is $18.88, right?

My suggestion to you is buy the daily passes ahead of sailing. On embarkation day, go to the Spa Open House and take a tour. If you like what you see, ask them to exchange your daily passes for the unlimited spa pass and pay the difference. If you really don't like what you see, ask for a refund. They are very accommodating.

Thanks all for the tips, I didn't know you could get a pass prior to sailing and I know this is something I really want to try (Fantasy, leaving in 11 days!).

According to recent navigators, a length of cruise pass for 7- day cruises are $144. A day pass is listed as $16. Does anyone have any insight?

what? MORE expensive when you buy the whole week than if you bought daily? 7*16-112, right?

The full week pass may include scrubs for each day. I know when you buy the daily pass, they aren't included and it's like $9 or so to get them.

What on earth do they add a gratuity for? Nobody is waiting on you, like a masseuse, mani/pedicurist, or hair stylist. They just keep the showers clean, and keep the changing rooms stocked with fresh towels and flip-flops. Everything else, you do for yourself.

Because they CAN and the other cruiselines do it.
