Rainforest Cafe - Which One??

Is the one in AK basically only open the hours of AK or is it open late.

We go in Oct and AK seems to close about 7 PM give or take EMH

I'll chime in:

The food is the same either location. The food at RFC has a decent variety to choose from, in many cases above average for WDW food. The prices are not too far out of line either, especially for the large portions you get.
Service seems to be better at the AK location, probably because it gets less busy. And, the tables seem to be way too close together at the DTD location. Often at the DTD location, it seems like a zoo.:rotfl2:

All in all, I would elect to eat at the AK location.

We have an ADR for the one at AK for our upcoming trip. Sure hope the food is decent. From what I see of the prices I sure would hate to pay that much for unedible food.

It's not unedible....just picture 5 star dining prices and fast food type quality though. I also recommend NOT going there. My wife and I at at the AK one last trip with our 5 year old daughter. Frankly, and I know it is not a Disney owned rest., it didn't feel Disney at all. Cheap decor, poor service, and VERY mediocre food.

I'm not even sure why Disney associates themselves with the company that owns them.

We love the Rainforest cafe! we have to eat there on every trip! I have been to both and I think both are the same inside, however I seem to love the DTD one the best! I keep going back to that one every trip! :thumbsup2

I think I might make reservations our first night in town.:lmao:

The first time we went was in 2001. We had burgers and sandwiches and it was fine. We returned 2006 and had other items and it was HORRIBLE.

But I remembered how much my preschooler enjoyed it...sigh...so I am thinking if we order burgers or sandwiches we should be okay.:rolleyes1

Is the Downtown Disney Rainforest Cafe going to close when T-Rex opens next year? I saw on Allears that they are constructing it near McDonald's and Fulton's Crab House, but it seems strange that they would keep both open (they're basically the same concept owned by the same company, just one with a rainforest theme and the other with dinosaurs). Does anyone know?

This is news to me, I'd like to know the answer to this myself.

We ate at the one at AK when I was there last.

Although sometimes Rainforest Cafe gets a bad name sometimes, I like the place because I ate lunch there right after I got engaged (except at the Chicago one)

My family loves the RFC. We'll be enjoying our Thanksgiving dinner there this year. We've ate at both locations and find the DTD location more suitable to us due to all the things to do while you're waiting for your name to be called.

It's troubling to hear quite a few people who have had such poor service and found the food so bad. We've always been impressed with the service. Very accomodating to young children and the food choices and quality have always been excellent for us. I don't expect to be disappointed this year.

The best piece of advice I've seen so far is to call ahead for an ADR. It's always worked very well for us.

Good luck!!!

Hello,
AK closes at 7pm or shortly after the park does so if you want to eat late go to DTD, but will usually have to wait. Beat the rush and eat at DTD before 6pm, last visit we didn't have to wait at all. Generally, the wait is shorter in AK, depending on what time of year you visit, but both are wonderful.
The theme is noisy, but most enjoyable the mimic a rainshower eery fifteen minutes, definatley not a quiet intimate place if that is what you are expecting.
The food however, IMHO has always been Awesome, but depends on what you are used to! I never had a bad meal there, and the service is usually pretty good, people are people and not all are meant to be wait staff :) Compared to the rest of the local food in Florida, which I think leaves much to be desired, the RFC food is excellent! Mojo Bones are my favorite, next to the CObb Salad, and the rasta pasty is quite spicy.
Enjoy!

I am pretty easy to please overall, but I agree that the food is not worth the money. There are many more places to try....plus you can eat a Rainforest Cafes throughout the country.
