If you use the ts dining plan at RC, can you get the Volcano as a snack? I figure it must be 2 or 3 snack credits, but can it be done? And do kids have to order off the kids menu? Thanks

You cannot order the Volcano as a snack. There is no such thing as a snack credit at TS restaurants. The Volcano requires 3 TS dessert credits. Dessert credits have to be used as part of your entire meal...ie, you cannot use just a dessert credit. They're part of your TS credit. If you don't have 3 people on the dining plan, you cannot get the volcano, unless you pay for it out of pocket. RC is very strict about this.

If your kids are on the standard kids DDP (2 snacks, 1 QS, 1 TS per day), they are required to order off the kids' menu at TS restaurants.

You cannot use snack credits (or quick service credits) at table service restaurants. Some have been able to order the Volcano using multiple adult dessert credits, while others have not.

On the regular dining plan the TS credits are separated between adults and children so the kids have to order from the kids' menu when using their credits.

No, it is not new. If you pay out of pocket, they don't care how many you have when you order the volcano...RC is getting their money for it from you. But, on the DDP, it takes 3 TS dessert credits to get it for RC to collect the correct reimbursement from Disney. If you got it using just 2 DDP dessert credits, you got some pixie dust. There have been several posts here over the years of couples being upset over not being allowed to order it using DDP credits.

Same thing goes for the chocolate extinction at T-Rex, except it takes 4 TS dessert credits.

Like other menus at WDW, if the description mentions a number that it serves (for two, for three, for four, etc), that's how many DDP credits it takes to order that item. They're not putting that in there to make you think you're getting some great deal.
