We've had an ADR here for a while now, we leave on Sunday for our trip. I'm considering cancelling our reservation on Tuesday because I've heard that the food isn't that great and after seeing the menu, how expensive it is! I'd rather snack my way through AK and then hit Downtown Disney later that evening and hit Earl of Sandwich or something.
What do you all think? Should I keep my res? Is it worth it? If not where should a vegetarian, a carnivore, an omnivore and 2 veggie kids eat/snack?
Thanks!

yah, i would not suggest Rainforest Cafe. We used to have one around where we live and the atmosphere was cooler than the food. Every time we've passed by the restaurant, it has always been packed. DTD is a MUCH better choice.

In AK there are a lot of CS that serve a variety of veggie/ non veggie foods. Know your dilemma. my BFF who we went with one year was a vegetarian.

We've eaten at the Rainforest Cafe at least a half dozen times and we loved it ever time. We've never gotten bad service or bad food.

If you have an ADR, you won't wait any longer than you would for any other ADR.

I love the appetizer plate as an entree and the blue crab dip is to die for! The salads are huge and fresh. My son likes their burgers and he is a picky eater. The Volcano dessert is soooo good. Huge brownies with lots of ice cream and caramel. The servers yell VOLCANO and there's a bit to-do when they bring it to your table.

I'd agree that the food and the service especially is great. I've been to many of the Cafes over the country and this one and the one in the MGM Grand in Vegas are by far my favorite. One suggestion I'd like to offer is to go during breakfast time. I absolutely love their breakfast and everytime we go to WDW the first time we hit AK we have breakfast there, get a munchie throughout the day, usually splitting a pizza, salad and breadsticks at Pizzafari, and grab a later dinner somewhere else other than in the AK. Plus when we go in September, the park closes at 5PM anyway so we usually head out around 4... drop by the room at the Poly, change into nicer attire and my DH and I grab a nice dinner at Narcoossee's to view Wishes. It's almost become a first full day trend for us now.

So I give it a :thumbsup2
:thumbsup2 x2 for breakfast
Note though that I have only eaten at the Rainforest Cafe at AK, not DTD... they actually might be different.

We have eaten at the AK Rainforest Cafe twice and enjoyed each time. It's not the cheapest place but the atmosphere is good and we were seated quickly each time and had good service. The food was good both times too. We ate each time around lunch and not being massive eaters had an entree only which was more than enough for me (once had the blue mountain sandwich and the other time had the burger and couldn't finish either). Dessert was an icecream in the park later ;). There is plenty of choice for veggies here as well some of which might make a nice change from veggie burger or salad.

If you do decide to go with DTD instead then Earl of Sandwich is fab for a quick meal, plenty of tables and good food. The BBQ hawaiian chicken is :cloud9:. Also at DTD is Raglan Rd which does great food and has veggie options, the portions are large tho so we ended up taking our dessert away in boxes! BTW, entertainment doesn't start till 8pm so before that it's a little quieter.

The only DTD place we have tried but wouldn't go back to is Bongo's it was expensive, the food nothing special and service slow.

Personally I would do the Rainforest Cafe I have really enjoyed both times we have been.

We go most trips because I end up having gift cards. The food isn't bad and there usually is a lot of it. My teenage daughter raved about the hamburgers.

In my experience, it may take you a while to be seated, and keep in mind you aren't dealing with cast members here.

Would I go if I didn't have gift cards? Probably for the younger kids, but there are better places to eat.
