Rained out in December?

Yes. I'm obsessing. :sad2:

I don't mind doing the parks in the rain or cold. But I am worried that Fantasmic, Wishes or MVMCP would get rained out.

Has anyone ever had that happen to you in December?

We went to MVMCP on Dec. 8 in the RAIN. We went early, around 5:00. We walked onto most things. Buzz was a 5 minutes wait. By 8:00, the rain had stopped and the parade went on as scheduled. Fewer tickets were sold because of the rain and we reaped the REWARDS.

DW and I were at WDW last December and we had rain on five of seven days. It did not rain out Fantasmic or Illuminations (I assume it didn't rain out Wishes) and in all honesty, it can be a great way to do the parks if you don't mind wearing a poncho. DW and I started our main MK day with an 8:05 breakfast at CP and we had a 1:00 lunch at Tony's. In between, we did BTMRR 4 times (only had to get off once), walked on to Peter Pan and Winnie-the-Pooh, the Barnstormer, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear twice, along with a bunch of other attractions. Heck, you could walk onto Dumbo!

So, a little rain isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it was clear enough at night for the nighttime spectaculars.

We were also there last December. We had off and on rain all week. The only thing that was cancelled was the Osbourne Lights. One night they made the announcement cancelling them about 5 minutes before they were scheduled to come on. The next night, some of them were still off but most were on. Everything else went on as scheduled, just soggy and colder.

If you want to do MVMCP I would recommend doing it early in your trip. We did get rained out in 2002 for MVMCP - we were troopers and made it as long as we could in the rain (Water was ankle deep on main street) and then called it a night. We never could have done that with our daughter though. They won't guarantee it - but that night they were offering tickets to another night with available tickets in exchange. We didn't know it then but we called after we got home and they had me mail in our wristbands and tickets and they credited the price of the tickets to my credit card. That's why I LOVE disney they do know what customer service is.

I just wanted to make a comment about visiting WDW last December when there were many rainy days. The trip was just me and my 2 youngest children (7 & 5 years old). It was kinda miserable in the rain. The rainy days gave it such a chill in the air the whole trip. And our only MK day was so rainy that by 5pm, our jeans were soaked half way up to our calves. The crowds never really thinned out like I was expecting them to, though we did have Tom Sawyer's Island to ourselves...lol.

The temps were supposed to be in the 70's, so coming from Chicago I thought shorts and t-shirt weather. NOPE!!! We needed pants and jackets. And the night we went to MVMCP it was probably in the upper 50's. That's warm to us here at home, but at WDW it felt very cold. The kids had on sweatshirts and winter coats and gloves and they were still cold.

I'm thinking of our next trip for the end of September. I know there's a chance of lots of rain, but at least it won't be too cold.

hmm, i was going to say when we used to go in Dec it was cold but i never remember it raining once! maybe since the hurricane season was so long last yr it contributed or maybe our 5 Dec trips were the only times it didn't rain :sunny: ( and we camped some of those so i would remember soggy stuff)..i do hear they are projecting another bad hurricane yr though for what it's worth

Living in FL I know that December isn't normally rainy but it can get cold at night especially compared to the daytime. Last year though FL weather was pretty bad and while it was raining in FL in December it was snowing heavily across the rest of the country.

Rain is not unusual at all in December in Florida as it is usually associated with the cold fronts. Sometimes they get stuck, expecially over northern and central Florida which can result in rain, sometimes they back up once they go through and produce rain that way as well.

But, it can get cold in December in Florida...to me there were many cold days this past December, but being from South Florida is relative. Cold to me can be quite warm to someone coming from temps near freezing. That's a parka day for me!! We always go to WDW prepared with rain gear and cold gear and warm gear this time of year.

We were at WDW in the beginning of December two years - see below in signature. On one of our trips nothing was canceled for us. The other year we had a lot of rain so Tapestry of Nations/Illuminations at Epcot was canceled. Another night it was too cold for Tapestry of Nations and it was canceled. MVMCP was also canceled one night because of rain.
We did have one day when it hit 80 degrees, but that was it.

That is why we started going in the beginning of November. We have had much better weather there at that time.

Good luck!!

I can't remember ever going to WDW that it didn't rain at least 25% of our days. Most of the time the rain is over in an hour or two. Our last trip, Nov/Dec 2005 we had 3 days that it rained all day and all night, that's not counting the days it rained just for an hour or two. But the rain has never slowed us down.

Yes, they have cancelled the Osborne Lights, the fireworks displays at all three parks, the castle shows... but there is always so many things to see and do that if one is cancelled just go to another.

On average, December is one of Florida's driest months, so generally speaking, your chances of a lot of rain are slim. Not that it's not possible. I find that the temperatures in December can be crazy. I would pack for morning lows as cold as 40s, but daytimes high could reach 90. It all depends on the weather pattern of that week.

Be prepared and enjoy!

We were there the week after Thanksgiving last year and that Monday the Spectromagic parade got cut short. It wasn't nearly as long and quite a few of the floats were missing. Tuesday morning was the only other time it rained when we were there. We'll get a chance to see what it does this year too!!!! We are going back the same week and taking my parents for their first trip! :cool1:

Ok I'm getting really nervous!!!! I've gone to WDW twice in May it didn't rain at all now I thought I was real safe because the average rainfall is higher in May then Dec. but I keep hearing about all this Rain in Dec. Please tell me it's not that bad please!!!! Between the rain and cold I'm getting very nervous!!!!!!!!! Should I reconsider? :scared:
