Rain, Surprise Birthdays, Rain, First Visits -(Ginny is deceased-Prayers for her.)

Well, what I wouldve done in that situation! is agreed to a less expensive toy but HE would have gotten new clothes or shoes! not groceries...although I have bought my kids GC's from them on numerous occassions (always seems to cost me more money). I can use it for groceries they get the cash to hit the mall! :yay: That is why I don't like to do GC's I usually have to buy Gwendolyn & Dayne's from them no matter where they are from. My sister finally started buying Dayne the Visa cards

I see where you are coming from Mel. Sometimes parents know the right thing to do and just feel that something else is more important. Try to think back and remember if money was really tite for you at the time and you needed groceries and didn't have the extra dollars that week. If you did, I would have taken Mitchell back to the store and let him buy the rest of what he shouldl have. If you did need it or DH thought he needed it think of it that he couldn't provide for you at the time and it was an easy way out. Maybe not the right way but an easy way. Men truly don't see things the same way as women. Everyone of us will vouch for that. Not that they are wrong, they just don't get it. I would feel the same way if Don had done that too but then put the whole thing in perspecitve. I know there were times we were so poor and had no food money. My sis would call my dad and I would get $100 cash in the mail. It was so kind of both of them. Number one that my sis called my dad cause she didn't like him and 2 that my dad would do it without my mom's knowledge.

That would have been a good idea. I don't think I've ever been so irritated with him as I was at that moment. I mean, NO FAIR!

That's funny that you buy your kids gift cards from them! A Visa card is definitely the way to go! :thumbsup2

No, money wasn't tight then. I do recall DH's arguement was that we were buying things for Mitchell with that card: groceries. He said Mitchell had enough toys (remember his birthday and Christmas are one day apart) and that he didn't NEED any more toys, but he did NEED groceries! He had a good point, I guess, but I still didn't agree to it!

That was so nice of your dad to send you money when you needed it. We parents always take care of our children, no matter how old they get, I see! That was nice of your sister to do that, even though she didn't want to necessarily talk to your dad.

See, I was trying so hard to give him the benefit of the doubt and not make it look so bad. But I'm with Connie on this one. It's not Mitchell fault of his birthday being at Christmas. And that is like charging your child to eat your food. I probably wouldn't bring it up anymore cause he evidently doesn't understand that it is wrong (look at his mom tho). So it's that consider the source and go on.

Well, I appreciate you giving him the benefit of the doubt, Ginny! He definitely shouldn't have done that, but he was so determined that he was right and I was wrong, there was no changing his mind. I can't imagine where Mitchell gets his stubborness from, can you? :confused3

And I often times think back to his raising and realize that it's really not his fault and he's doing really well considering how his mother and father were.

I guess I won't complain about that anymore, then, because it could be a WHOLE lot worse! I could be married to his mother!!! :scared1:  :rotfl2:

Ok, I laughed out loud. Married to his Mother. No thank you. See, with his parent situation thrown in it isn't wrong to him. So it is up to you to change his way of thinking. Very gently and quietly so he won't notice.

I'm not that big into toys...so I understand where DH was coming from(I understood but Mitchell would have gotten clothes or something to that effect)...but, my belief is that Christmas is for toys, Easter for candy, swimsuits, towels, bubbles, and movies, and Birthdays for clothes! Don't know where that came from; but, that is how I try to buy. Even with Ashton's little friends their bday bag is full of clothes (usually winter or fall --their bday is in July) with a small toy to make them happy!, Christmas is a bag of toys (usually educational but fun)with a pj or shirt, and for Easter usually candy, w/swimsuits or towels. My mom did not do this but does now after years of my doing it she followed along! :lmao: no one else in my family does this :confused3 I think it's a good plan :rotfl2:

Too much Connie. That is exactly how we have done it too. Up until they have gotten older and don't do toys. But Christmas is about what you most wish for and for kids it is toys. When the kids were older and I was told no more toys I went to videos and video games. Still fun stuff. You taught your mom a good lesson. See old people can be taught. Not saying your mom is old mind you. Just older than you.

Sounds like a good plan to me! Good thing your mother followed suit and did it your way! :thumbsup2

Or I could be married to MY mother! Even scarier!

Hmmm, may have to change the way I do things! ;)

Andrew always said if his dad were a year older he and Papa (Don) could be brothers, maybe even twins. He was so little and it was so cute.

Yes, he just knew he loved his dad and his papa. He didn't understand that they had separate parents. He was a really cute child. That dark hair and those blue eyes.

I had always expected Mitchell to be dark haired and dark eyed like his Daddy the entire time I was PG. Didn't happen! DH told me once we found out he was a boy that he'd look like DH's father (who had passed shortly after we were married), He had blond hair. Surely enough, he looked like DH's dad when he was born and looks more and more like him every day. Funny how DH knew that and had that intuition?

 Hi, Ginny! Stopping in to your thread to tell you, "I hope you're having a good day!"

I have four hours left, so I'm going to try and get off DIS and get some work done. My priorities have changed. :ssst: Don't tell anyone I only come to work to catch up on my DIS!

Mw too. I am getting ready to add Austin's football pic from his freshman year and his senior year. I've been trying to figure out the scanner here at work.

He really did have a full beard when he was just a freshman!

My how he has grown.....he's a man now Ginny!

He is a man. Sheri and I cry when we think about it. Tomorrow he is 18. I bought wigs for Friday. Don just bought Austin a 32 inch flat screen tv for his birthday. We are splitting it with Sheri and Mike and Sandi is buying him the wall mount for it. Now he can save his winnings from the fantasy baseball (350$) for something else. He will be surprised. We kept it a secret for a change.
