Rain, Surprise Birthdays, Rain, First Visits -(Ginny is deceased-Prayers for her.)

Hi! Mel; sorry about your day tomorrow! Enjoy your day to the past with Mitchell! It should be fun to play outside with him...maybe you can put together a sacvenger (bad sp job)hunt for him! that would be fun and should kill a good deal of time!

Hi! Ginny~ the dances over here are wild...no fights, just crowded very very crowded each class in our school has well over 300 kids! and this is a country town!!! :lmao:
Dayne doesn't care to go he said it is just too crowded (I bet you didn't guess he would say that :rotfl: )! They would not have enough room in the venue chosen to tell them 3 people groups. I think that is soo funny for a small town to make those types of rules reminds me of "Footloose".

The rain cleared out earlier but it is still so dreary....the front is sitting right over us (I think) that is what was forcasted...suppose to move on this evening...I just remembered "Toy Story" is at the show today....I may go to the show with Ashton after Chloes leaves...she would NEVER sit still or QUIET for that...the baby girl on FB that wouldn't stop---that is Chloe! :lmao:

Our small town school has 1400 in the high school. Of the 325 in Austins class the top 100 kids has a 3.9 grade average or higher. Austin says the Junior class is even smarter than his. I think the school board still wants them to be small town. When they built the new school the gym will house 2900 seated and 200 standing. It is at capacity anytime they have something going on. Aust quit going to dances after his freshman year but he is taking full advantage of everything this year and I am so glad. You don't want them to regret missing out on the fun stuff that happens.

It is all the way up to 55 outside. I'm afraid my tomatoes are going to quit setting with these cooler nights. I bagged a bunch of green ones and put in the garage to ripen.

We love Toy Story. I hope you get to go. Not like you haven't seen it 1 million time already?

I knew you would have the trip all figured out. I hope it is tolerable for you. I know it won't be fun. Just know you are doing it for the right reason and maybe DH will reward you. :flower3:

They started that rule in middle school because small towns think if 3 or more get together there will be trouble and they can't control it. The heck of it is there are about 20 boys and 15 girls that are always together and it is hard to keep them apart. They line dance a lot so they can be sorta together. He is hoping with the fb coaches chaperoning this year they may be more lenient.

Hey, I'm a planner and I gotta make sure it's a LITTLE fun, right??? Or tolerable at the very least. I just don't want Mitchell to get bored. You know.

Well, the rule makes sense, but it still stinks that kids can't hang out together at a school function. I mean, they're there to have fun and be with their friends. now, which TWO to pick?? :goodvibes I hope the FB coaches are more lenient, too, for the kids sake. After all, this is Austin's last high school homecoming dance!

Oh, I'll survive! Just dreading it like crazy, but nothing is every really as bad as we make it out to be. At least I hope not in this situation!!!

A scavenger hunt sounds like a good idea. I don't know if I'll have time to put something together so quick, but you know I'll be thinking on that!

I laughed at your description of Footloose. Man, I loved that movie when I was a kid! :thumbsup2

Oh, I hope you get to see Toy Story in 3D. That would be so awesome. I loved one and two equally and to get to see them both in one sitting would be wonderful for Peter Pan. He would so enjoy passing a cloudy/rainy day away doing that. I hope if you go, you'll have a BLAST! :yay:

I am back from the Pep Assembly. I can't remember when I laughed so hard. Oh yes I do, It was at Epcot and Austin and his poses.

He posed well today. I will put up pix tomorrow. The gym was packed of course with the grades in their groups. They first did the lighting of the homcoming torch candle. Then relays began between the classes. With points going to the winning teams. After that the Tigerettes (dance team) came out and then the 'cheerleaders'. I say that loosely. What was the funniest part is that the coach being new this year did not know the senior football boys came out dressed as cheerleaders. There were 12 of them. They came out cheering and movin to the music. They did their tricks on mats so they would not get hurt of course. They did a line dance and several routines. Ending up with a pyramid. Austin was superb and I must say his hair was really pretty against that dark beard. They wore those ball shorts under the skirts. Aust had his hiked up a little in the back. I told him he looked like a floozy. So it was over and I came back to work like a good worker. They are having a parade and end with a car bashing in the school lot. I knew I better get my car outta there.

Ginny

Happy Birthday, Austin!!! :woohoo:

I loved to see the old pics! I am sure you are one super happy grandma! He seems like such an accomplished and fun guy. Congrats

Get ready for pix and video.

I don't think I have laughed that hard for a long time.

The Game: It was so good. Republic scored first 7-0. By the half the score was 7-6. At the end of the third quarter it was 10-6. The only thing good that happened is that I won the 50/50 project grad money. $292.00.

:yay: for me. 4th quarter with 4 minutes we score now 13-10. We lead. First time we have lead all year. 8 seconds left in the game Republic scores. Final 17-13. We cried.

And now to the video. It is right at 5 minutes. Crazy boys. Aust starts out back row, right.

You will just have to follow him.

Hope it all comes out.

Ashton and I laughed...too much---I love the wigs and what a figure Austin has! :lmao:
I'm so sorry they didn't win that is a hard lose!

Congrats! on the 50/50 win! have a great time tonight!!! Danny & I are thinking of going to one of the casinos tonight! either that or another car show!

:wave2:
P.S. did you take a minute to see the two videos I posted on my threads fun stuff!!!:mickeyjum

First of all, thank you to all of you for the warm welcome! I'm sorry that I am going to be a not-very-frequent poster just because this time of year is so busy for me and I don't have a lot of time on the Dis.

LOVE the video! I work at a high school and I have seen a lot of rallies and I have to say that would be a highlight for any high school. I think it's great when the boys don't take themselves too seriously.

As for the football...it's tough to lose a game like that. That happened to our kids last year for our big game with our cross-town rivals. We scored with about 1 minute left in the game and we were up. In the next minute the other team went all the way down the field (w/ the help of some questionable calls by the refs) and scored right at the final horn. I felt so bad for our kids. Hopefully they are still having fun just playing the game.

OH MY GOODNESS!! :lmao:

Just what I needed after the long night I have had! That has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. He looked a little nervous at first, but opened up! Seriously..they were so good. I am very impressed! Especially the Beyonce Single Ladies. SO GREAT:rotfl:

Hi Ginny. I just wanted to come by and say hi. I'm not sure I'm ever going to get caught up on the chatter I missed while I was gone, but I did read this page and watch that HILARIOUS video. That was SO cute! Sometimes I look forward to the boys being in high school....then I remember that there's plenty of time for that and I am quite enjoying 4 and 7. ;)

Sometimes I wish I could go back to high school though...and then I regain my sanity.

I did see Austin's Freshman/Senior football pictures and the birthday tribute. Those family pictures are amazing (and Austin hasn't changed at all in 4 years)! You are such a great grandma. Austin (and Andrew and Alex...and Andrea!) are so lucky to have you!

Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

Mel, I hope you survived that trip yesterday. You are a better person than I am to even go!

Oh, Ginny! :lmao: Thanks so much for posting that video. It was sooo funny! Austin is too much - tell him I liked his wig the best, it was cut so stylishly. :goodvibes

Heather, thanks for the well wishes on the trip. It didn't quite go as planned - Dh wanted to take MIL's car. Frustration for me b/c I had thought we were taking ours. Mitchell's seat is in our car, his toys, change of clothes, etc. I had was going to put his bike in the trunk. The cord to his DVD player is already plugged in, etc. etc.

So I unpack everything and move it to her car, only to be told that we might get bit - b/c there were ants in her car!

That was fun and you better believe I was irritated by it. So Mitchell watched his movie and I read my book, both of us minding our own business. Every once in awhile, Mitchell would holler out that an ant was on him and DH told him to toughen up. :headache: I'm sorry - those things hurt when they bite!

So we get to Aunt's house and we are fed the following: creamed corn, field peas, cornbread. I'm nauseated from riding in the back seat, so I only nibble at my dinner. Mitchell was less than enthused with the meal, but DH loved it.

Afterwards we climb trees, Mitchell rides his bike and just the three of us take a walk through the woods to the pond to feed the brim. That was nice! It was a beautiful afternoon. When we return, I am sitting on the swing reading my book, minding my own, while DH and Mitchell play. MIL and her sis are talking. THen I begin to hear comments like: Mitchell is clumsy. Mitchells needs to "toughen up" and Mitchell needs to learn how to stand up on his bike and pedal harder. MItchell needs to quit worrying about getting hurt and just go for it.

What Mitchell needs is a grandmother who doesn't criticize him and loves him for who he is! :furious:

Sorry, am I being too hard on her?

Then when we got ready to go, I found that his seat and all the bags that we had left in the car were literally covered with ants. I tried not to make such a big deal out of it, but I did take his stuff out and try to get as many ants off of his things as I could. DH told me that I was making a big deal out of nothing and my response to him was "You wouldn't let him play in an antbed, so why are you willing to let him sit in one?"

MIL gets in the car and tells me she has not had an enjoyable trip at all.

Why?, I ask her.

Her reply - Because I've had to deal with these ants.

My response to her? "Probably because of ME complaining about the ants!"

She didn't reply. That's what I thought she meant. :snooty:

Sorry, Ginny. Didn't mean to rant on your thread again!!!! But please, let me know if you guys think I'm just too hard on the MIL or if you think my feelings are warranted. Sometimes I think my judgment is too clouded given our past together and I just don't like her, so therefore am quick to make assumptions based on my feelings!!!

Morning Ginny,

I just had a chance to watch the video. Those boys were hilarious! I remember when I was in high school and then Lacey was in high school. They used to do those kinds of skits all the time and the crowds loved them. Hunter said they have some pretty funny pep ralley at his middle school.

Mel, I gotta agree with you on the mother in law issue. I have a very similar mother in law and I get so sick and tired of her sometimes. Sending a couple of :hug: your way.

Lisa

Thanks, Lisa! Can always use hugs!

You'd think after 15 years of this, I'd be used to all her antics. :crazy2:

I hate to sound discouraging but I've been dealing with John's Mama for 25 years now and things haven't really changed. Up and down. Up and down. All the time, it's up and down with her. :confused3

Thank you Katie. He is a well-rounded young man.

Good morning! Ginny
can't wait to see the pics; sounds like it was a lot of fun!
Have a great day!
Connie :wave2: & Ashton :wizard:

Eventually I return.

I knew you could relate to that. They were fun and the boys really had a great time. It was fun that they kept it a secret from the coach.

Thanks for tuning in Heather. We have missed you. I know you are busy and even working today. That is probably a good thing tho. It sure brought the days back for me too. But I went to school in the days before footloose and we couldn't do such fun stuff in the Bible Belt.

Oh, Ginny! :lmao: Thanks so much for posting that video. It was sooo funny! Austin is too much - tell him I liked his wig the best, it was cut so stylishly. :goodvibes

Why would you think you have to be sorry to rant on my thread? I would be so unhappy about the ants. And why doesn't she do something about them? Shame on her. It's her fault they are there. She can't blame that one on you at all. Even tho she would like to I'm sure.

Yes his wig was the 'flirty' one. Those crazy funny boys.

Give Mitchell a big hug and kiss for me

I wish I could find the video of his 4th grade play when he had the lead and had all that singing (and he can't sing). He has never been the shy type. But sometimes he has to warm up.

We had fun at the casino. Me winning the 50/50 on Friday night helped. Of the $292 I have $170 left. Out of that I funded Don and paid for dinner for 6 and the tip.

Aust started with a $20 and came home with 25 out of that 20 plus the other money he had. Joel started with a $20 and ended up with $90. Our rule is whoever the big winner of the day is has to buy the next meal. Joel bought drive thru at McDonalds at 2:30 am. Yes it was almost 3:00 am when we got home. I'm too old for that.

I cooked dinner last nite and made Austin his birthday cake. Even wrote happy birthday on it. I so should have taken a picture. It was by far the ugliest cake ever. But it was delish. I also made a lemon one for those who don't like chocolate.

Everyone have a great day and I will have a busy Monday as ususal.

Ginny

Good morning all!!
Ginny ~ the video was so funny! I loved the wig--I agree with Mel so stylish!!!

Mel~ you are so much better than me! I would have told DH we go in our car because I have all Mitchell's stuff in there and I am not sitting in the back with ants! Danny knows better than to even try and say something to the effect that I am making a big deal over something!!! I have let him have it in front of EVERYONE!! before. Now, I realize I look like a fool but it makes him feel so bad he rarely does it again. (that and I have such a quick temper that I usually don't think about it until after I have already lost it--I have gotten better as I have gotten older--thank goodness) I'm happy to hear your antbed comment! I would have sent him on his way alone with his mom; I have done that before too! with his brother/his brother and I could not stand one another!

Venting is good and as I told you and Ginny in that PM we seem to be able to understand one another and that is a wonderful thing. I love that I have made such wonderful friends with ALL OF YOU!

I so agree with you Connie. I taught my children to not ever do something in public that you can't take back. One day Sheri called me and said Mom I can never go to Kmart. I asked why and she said she did the unthinkable and chewed out a clerk. I laughed and said 'you even worked at Kmart, you know what they have to put up with' She said this clerk did not learn customer service. I just said it's a good thing you have 2 other k-marts you can go to.

I too am so thankful we can vent among our friends and know even if we are wrong (and sometimes I know I am. I'm a little hard-headed) we get support. I feel we all need that kind of friendship in our lives. I think it would
totally awesome if we could get together.

I know they say you should never make someone choose between you and their parent. You man not like their choice. But DH should have put Mel's and Mitchell's feelings ahead of mom and the car. That wouldl not have been hard to say no too. They were still going to go just not have the extra relation (ants) along for the ride.

:grouphug: to us all

Well, I kind of figured that if she hasn't changed by now, she'll never change! But I know JUST what you mean when you say "up and down" because that's EXACTLY how she is!

Why would you think you have to be sorry to rant on my thread? I would be so unhappy about the ants. And why doesn't she do something about them? Shame on her. It's her fault they are there. She can't blame that one on you at all. Even tho she would like to I'm sure!

Ginny

I'm not sure why I apologized! I guess sometimes I think I rant a little too much! :rolleyes1

Yeah, the ants were more than I wanted to handle. I don't think I complained too much about them at all, to be honest. I made mention of them from time to time, but I just didn't come right out and tell her how much I hated having ants crawling all over my child. But you're right: I'm sure someway, somehow, she found a way to make it my fault! :rotfl:

Oh, my. You are such a good grandmother to make Austin's birthday cake. And two! Wow. I could go for a piece of birthday cake right now. Can't, though. I'm on a diet. I'm so excited, though! I have actually lost some weight! I haven't gotten on a scale, but you can visibly tell (even DH says so), so I'm gonna say maybe five pounds??? Anyways, I'm excited. :yay:

I didn't know about the ants until right before we got in the car. Otherwise, I would have made DH take our car, like it or not. But I dealt with it, mostly by being quiet and reading my book in the back. Mitchell had his video and only made occasional comments, so I really don't see how I was making too big of a deal. DH said he didn't care if I said anything about the ants, it was that he didn't want me making too big of a deal about it lest Mitchell be scared of bugs. Bugs is one thing, fiery ants that sting like the Devil is another. We agree to disagree!

I try not to say anything in front of DH's mother, lest she have some more fuel to add to her fire against me. I don't want to give her anything else to gloat over. She's already convined DH made the wrong choice in wife, so I don't dare argue with DH in front of her. :rolleyes1

And like you said, you realize later that you made yourself look foolish and then you get embarrassed over something you can't take back. I did that at a birthday party when Mitchell was not even a year old. He fell on some playground equipment and bloodied his nose pretty bad and DH was holding him. I wanted to hold him for myself and make sure he was okay, but DH wouldn't give him to me. But I wouldn't let it go - I just kept saying giving me my baby! Looking back, it wasn't that big of a deal, but at the time, I just wanted to see for myself and have him in my arms. No comfort like a mother's comfort, you know.

Thanks for the words of encouragment and support! I know that I can count on you guys to be good listeners. And if you disagree with me, please tell me! I want to know if I'm too stubborn for my own good so that I can work on it! :goodvibes

Ginny

I used to try and make DH decide, but it was no use. He wasn't going to take up for me or his mom. Even when she was CLEARLY in the wrong, he'd refuse to take sides. Eventually, I've learned it's a battle I can't win and try to ignore when possible! The ants were horrible - hundreds of them, no doubt. She really should do something about it, but instead she whines that she doesn't understand why they are there. Who cares why they are there! Put some bug spray in your car or set a poison trap. Anything to get rid of those unpleasant creatures!

I'm so glad for the friendships I have formed on the DIS, too! I feel like I know each and every one of you so well, and we've never even met in person. That's pretty amazing!

Mel, we are glad to have you here and be a part of our world too. Hang in there and realize what you can and cannot change. Pick your battles.

Ginny
