Rain in May

We're booked to go 14-30 May. I chose this time to coincide with UK school hols and was told it's before hurricane season so the weather is nice with a daily downpour lasting up to an hour.
However I've now been told the past few May's have been non stop rain so I'm concerned. We've had so much flooding here lately I was looking forward to 2 weeks of sun. Can anyone advise what is likely for mid to late may.
Thanks.

Counting down to 14th May!

I think with Florida weather it is always so up in the air it's hard to know. I have been one time in May and I will tell you it rained the majority of our stay. I bet a Florida native will chime in soon and let you know. Good news is we still had a good time!

I was at Disney last year (April 29 - May 8). Some days it was really wet but it wasn't a total washout. In 2012 I went mid-May and the weather was perfect; I think it rained one day. One year I went and it was incredibly hot and dry. You just can't tell! Go and have fun!

We were there last May (May 15-24). For the first 5 days, it never rained. It was hot and sunny every day. On the 6th day, it poured in the afternoon for about 4 hours, but cleared up after that. The rest of the trip, it rained every afternoon for about 1-2 hours and then cleared up.......mornings were sunny and evenings were dry. The weather certainly did not have an impact on our fun. In fact, we are going back this year in May. We will keep our fingers crossed that the weather will be as good as last year.

you really cant expect the weather from that time frame to be what you will have for your week.

Example is in 2010 the week i went in Dec was fridid to say the least-- low 40's and freezing. We went the same week this year and it was high 80s but one day we needed long pants and jackets because it was windy and low 50's but it was one day out of the week

Even with looking at weather reports the week before-- NOTHING was right when we got there. I was expecting rain every day from those reports.

Pack up, Poncho up and tour on
You cant change the weather so no point in stressing on it.

I went May 2-9 last year and there were a few short lived rains, but that is it. I am hoping for the same this year. But will come prepared just in case it does rain.

I was there last year from May 20th to the 24th and we had some showers in the mid afternoons/evenings but nothing major for the most part it was sunny with light breezes and just perfect.
If anything the rain was a small relief to the mid day heat :)

Going again this may same time frame hoping for a similar experience fingers crossed !

We were there in late May/early June of 2012. There was more rain on that trip than on our previous 2 trips which had been in August 2010 and September 2008. We'd expected less rain in May than in August/September, but we'd been blessed with almost no rain on the 2008 and 2010 trips so our luck was bound to run out. As PPs have said, it's highly variable so you can't base your decision on what the last few years have been like.

In May 2012, we had two days out of 9 where it rained most of the day, varying between drizzle and heavy downpours, and a third day where it sprinkled on and off for about 1/2 the day. But it didn't impede our fun. One of the days we had already planned to spend the afternoon at Disney Quest so it was perfect. One day we had planned to be at Typhoon Lagoon, but there were thunderstorms forecast so we altered our plan and went to AK instead and saved TL for the next day. When we were in the parks during rain, we just put on ponchos and went about our business. We scheduled our next trip for the same time frame this May.

We have went the last 2 Mays. The first one I don't think it rained much at all, maybe a shower her eand there. Last year it rained almost every day, and one day it rained all afternoon. We just took a nap and went out after the rain stopped... best night the entire trip :) If we were in the park and it rained, we just put on ponchos and went somewhere indoors. I also had a poncho for our stroller, and put it over it pretty much anytime we left it if I thought it might possibly rain. It took less than a minute, but I didn't want to be the lady w/ a soaking wet stroller! I saw some people that had water sitting in their strollers ;) You might want to look at each park and find some rainy-time activities for each place.

We were there the 3rd week of May last year and it rained pretty hard for a short amount of time most afternoons. However, we loved the rain! While most people took cover, we pulled on our ponchos and kept going - got a lot done during those times. Also, it seemed to us that a lot of folks left during the rain, so the parks were less crowded when the rain stopped as well. By day 3 we were eagerly anticipating the rain. ;)

We were at Disney last May 9-16th. The only time we had rain was the afternoon of the 16th but we were leaving. I look at it this way, whatever the weather I am still at Disney World.

We went over Mother's Day weekend in 2008 and it was absolutely beautiful. Not one drop of rain.

We went for a weekend in mid May another year (can't remember the year) and it rained non-stop the whole weekend.

DD and I went last summer in July and it rained non stop for the whole week. Finally, on the last couple days it started to dry out. It was crazy as we had been several times in the summer before and never had anything like that.

So, kind of hard to predict. Just bring some ponchos and go with the flow! The good thing is that hardly any of the rides stop for rain as so many are inside.

We've gone the last couple of years in May for a week and we haven't run into many weather issues. Last year was actually especially good for us. It rained one afternoon for maybe 30 minutes but that coincided for us as we were hopping between DHS and MK. Other than that it sprinkled for maybe 15 minutes on our big Epcot day. So like others have said it can be unpredictable. So you should probably plan on it raining a little bit every day, but you'll probably have more than a few days that are either dry or the rain just doesn't affect you at all. Have a great trip!
