Rain All Day Forecast, Which Park Would You Do

Just one day is forecast to be a bit of a rain out for our upcoming trip.

I know what park to hit @ WDW (MGM being a compact park with many covered queues), but coming up short trying to figure out which would be better @ DL.

Also, wondering since DL has lots of local guests, does a rainy day typically have a big impact on lowering overall crowds?

My understanding is that a really rainy day has significant impact on local attendance, yes. That was also my personal experience a few years ago.

I think the question you are asking isn't quite as relevant as it is at WDW. At DL the two parks are close enough to walk (although admittedly, that's in the rain). Soo you could easily go to one park, then hop over to the other, doing whatever rides are open at each place.

That being said, I think DCA is less affected by heavy rain.

It sure can. If it's rainy in the morning people will stay in. If the forecast is really bad and there is rain near people will stay in. Rainy days are the quietest days. When it does rain.


You could park hop and do TSMM, Soarin, Indy, ST, and SM on days like that. If you can't hop and you happen to be there on a day like this, go to DL, it has more attraction and will be easier to see them all if rain has scared the crowds away.

At DCA theres Muppets, Tough to be a Bug, Monsters, Mermaid, Animations, Turtle Talk, Soar'n and Tower of Terror that are all indoors. Parts of the ques of some of the rides are outdoors but covered. On rainy days most of the line would be inside. California Screaming, Grizzly Rapids, Micky's Wheel and a few of the smaller kids rides are outdoors and maybe closed.

At DL many rides have ques mostly outside. Space and Indy have que areas inside but the crowd is held outside most of the wait. Splash's que has quite a bit outside as is some of the ride. Big Thunder ride and que is outside. To me DL would be a bad choice because many rides are outside or have significant portions of their que outside.

Wind can effect SSS and CZ in DCA, but rain closes more rides in DL. When it's raining.

We were there in October and had a day and a half of rain. It really dampened the crowds. The first day it rained just for the morning and the sun came out and shone beautifully in the afternoon. We were walking on and off Splash Mountain for most the afternoon. I finally asked the CM where all the people are as the sun was out and it was so nice. He said any little bit of rain, keeps the crowds away. The next day it rained sheets and sheets. We put on sweaters and ponchos and went on our way. We travelled that far, we were NOT sitting in the hotel room! There were no ride closures and we ended up going between the parks. We did almost 30 rides that day. We actually didn't even have to get off Soarin' as there was no one behind us coming on the ride. Although by the end of the day we were beat, the rain was an awesome thing for us!!

I would lean towards DCA. See some shows: Aladdin, Turtle Talk, Animation Academy, Tough to be a Bug etc.

My secret thought is that they have to stay indoors so they can continue believing the myth that it never rains in southern California.

I agree! Rain?! When? The next hint of rain right now is February 10th. But that's so far in fantasyland (324 hours out), it's not very reliable.

from your lipsthat's the date i'm questioning. I had a friend whose employer subscribes to the premium accuweather that gives the hourly forecast check my vacation dates. Was thrilled to see warm enough temps that we can hop in the pool! But, she said it showed steady rain & thunderstorms the evening of the 10th, approx 1/3rd of an inch. That's nothing for my part of the country, but as bumbershoot mentioned, didn't think it rained much in CA and was hoping it'd keep the crowds down that day. We'll be there, rain or shine but will likely concentrate on DCA during the day.

WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too far away to be accurate. We had a *storm* here a few days ago... when I went to bed the NIGHT BEFORE it said 100% chance of rain, and when I woke up, they said the storm wouldn't arrive for a couple more days. Check again right before you leave, and even then know it can and will likely change!

I'm actually surprised Accuweather is noting the rain on the 10th. There is talk among the weather community that this ridging that's been taking place might be breaking down and the gates are about to be open. For us, Californians, that's great news. We need the rain. For those visiting not so good. I'll keep a track on the models as we get closer to the event.

HA! Well Hi there neighbor! We are in Arlington too! It IS a small world afterall! HA! I found the "webbed feet" comment super-funny! Thanks for the giggle!! And what do ya know? It happens to be RAINING today! What are the chances of that?!!

Now to the OP~ When we went in April our very first day (and a Friday I might add) showed a 30% chance of rain and it was AMAZING! The place was dead all day! I felt maybe one little half a rain droplet and that was IT, but it sure kept the crowds away wonderfully! Best day we've had at Disney as a family so far! I say if here is rain GO to the parks!! Oh, and why choose just one park? Why not park hop? The parks are so close!

We went in December and had a day of rain. What a mess that was!! Yes, the crowds were lower, but they shut down all they FP machines so you have no choice but to wait standby for everything. Lines for Star Wars were up to 60 minutes, and Indy was about 75 minutes. I asked a CM why the FP machines weren't open, and the first one told me they close them when the crowds are lower. The second CM told me they close them because a lot of them are exposed to the elements, and they don't want them to get damaged from the rain. After seeing some of the wait times, I'm believing CM #2.

We spent most of our day at DCA, doing what a lot of others suggested: Aladdin, Monsters, Inc., Little Mermaid, Animation Academy, Bug's Life...

The rain let up around 5-ish, but DL was closing early that night for the CM Holiday Party. DH went back to get pictures with rainwater reflections (really cool pictures!!) and I grabbed a hot chocolate and went back to the Animation Academy.
