How sturdy are they? So they kids could go out and lean against them? How much weight could you put on them. I don't think I will let them out there without an adult present. They are 9 and 12.

I haven't been on DCL yet but at least on RCI, the veranda wall/railing is extremely sturdy! Yes, you most certainly could lean on it, just like you could lean on any of the other decks on the ship. The ones I have seen are plexiglass over a steel framework. Even if somehow the plexi broke, you'd still have much to catch you..

I wouldn't let the kids out there unattented....sturdy or not.

They are very high. They come breast bone high to me and I am 5 foot 8. They are also very thick and sturdy. I bet you could not get one to move even if you took a 900 pound man against it.... Trust me....:goodvibes If it holds the Tink Family, it will hold your ENTIRE family.

I am a 6'2" two hundred and something something overgrown thirty something kid, and I am confident that if I took a running start at the rail, the only thing that would break would be my clavicle. Unless your kids have watched the Incredibles a few too many times, they are not going to break it. Climbing, on the other hand, is a completely different animal....

If I remember correctly, the plexiglass is on the inside and the rails on the outside, so climbing would also be difficult. My boys will be 10 and 13 when we cruise. I trust them to be sensible out there.

They had no problems holding my 200 pound frame and I was leaned right over watching the stabilizers one night.

They are very very strong. Are you worried about them climbing on the little rails beneath the handrail? They wont be able to since there is clear plexiglass on the inside, so you can't get a foothold. My DD was 12 when we cruised and I still didn't want her out there alone unless I was watching her, but the only way to climb up over that high railing would be to stand on one of the chairs out there. Hope this helps. :goodvibes
