RAGLAN ROADS - 10/15 -- Confessions of a Foodaholic: A DDP First Timers Review.

Hahaha...I was worried when I saw the picture of the Alfredo...I was worried they added tomato sauce to it! I don't like chunky sauce! (Smooth, yes. Chunky, no.)

:rotfl: Glad I'm not alone!

haha no no i added it on! chunky sauce does suck but in this case, was totally worth picking around the chunks!

We ate dinner at 1900 Park and I have to agree if it wasn't for the characters it would have been a 5/10.

Yes! More me's! But, shouldn't it be more like an "I hate tomato CHUNKS" club? Sauce, when smooth, isn't a problem. And I like ketchup too... that never has chunks in it, does it?

And remember the days of the old figaro fries... bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato on fries?!?! What's up with that???

Can't wait to read more. popcorn:: We are headed to Sci Fi and Y & Y also. Keep it coming... and thanks.

oh hi!! I'm also a hater of chunky sauces/salsa. And I thought I was the only one!! Now we can be each others support group! yay!

I love your reviews! The Pop food court was great, wasn't it? :cloud9: Did you ever get the cheese fries? OMG they were my favorite! I loved them!

I wish I had been able to enjoy Sci-Fi more. I didn't really even get any pictures because Landon skipped his morning nap that day and I had to deal with his fussiness instead of enjoy my meal. Oh well...its not like I won't ever go back! ;)

thats too bad isnt it? because its such a pretty place and the characters are great, but they really do need to work on the food!

Day 5: Yak and Yeti Breakfast and Lunch

559.jpg

O yea... you read that right! We had Y & Y for breakfast! Only at Disney!

So lets start with Breakfast then move onto lunch!

For breakfast we decided to skip the regular (super delish) croissants from PoP Century Food Court and grab something later in the day.

We did however grab a sunny D... and this was one special sunny D!!!

523.jpg

Apparently at Disney World, SunnyD doesn’t expire till 3009!!

Well... we didn’t last very long! Soon after we arrived at AK we were hungry people! So we were just walking by Y & Y and I remembered that you can use a snack credit to get to Egg Rolls. So we decided that that would be a very healthy nutritious Disney breakfast!

mmmmm me stuffin my fach!! yummy!

As you can tell from the above pics.. the Egg rolls were a completely Hit! They were sooo fresh and good. It was egg roll perfection. 10/10 from both of us.

We were going to order Picnic in the Park for lunch but since both of us were blown away by the delicious egg rolls we had had for breakfast we decided to try out Yak and Yeti for a counter service lunch as well.

I ordered the honey chicken and chocolate cake for dessert.

DisneyWorld2009113.jpg

DisneyWorld2009115.jpg

The honey chicken was OK. The chicken and sauce itself were pretty good and I would give that part of it a 7/10. The rice on the other hand was pretty gross. 3/10 for that. I was expecting more of a fried rice like you get at the mandarin but this was just smooshy yucky rice with some random veggie pieces. So needless to say I ate the chicken and that was about it. Luckily the chicken was filling. The chocolate cake was pretty good. 7/10 for that too.

Craig had the Kung Pao beef also with chocolate cake for dessert.

DisneyWorld2009112.jpg

He liked his more then mine. I tried some and i thought the beef was good but still did not like the rice!! He gave this 7/10. He liked his chocolate cake too! 8/10.

uP next... Spirit of Aloha... is it really as horrible as people say!?

Does anyone else remember when Sci-Fi had pop corn soup?

We ate at Sci-Fi in 2007 and were disappointed. I wasn't expecting much, we went for the ambiance but I just didn't care for the food. The theming was great and I loved that as well as the awesome air conditioning (except for the fact that I was sitting right under a vent that dripped on me the entire meal). But I wished it had been more 'drive in' food like to go with the theming. Which yes I know means hamburgers (which they had but I don't eat), hot dogs, corn dogs, fries, pop corn, nachos etc. I think I had a turkey sandwich and just didn't care for it.

Sorry to take over the post, but anyway I'm glad you had a good time and enjoyed the food!

Years ago that's EXACTLY what they used to serve at Sci Fi! Awesome, fancified "snack bar" food. Enormous, "dressed-up to deserve a higher pricetag" servings of chili dogs, nachos, burgers and shakes and the like. We LOVED IT back then! The atmosphere was so unique and the menu seemed to better fit the mood of the place. The castmembers wore rollerskates like oldtime 50's carhops and gave gave away Sci-Fi glow in the dark frisbees to kids. It was just so neat back then. We were so disappointed when (years ago) they switched over to the "new" more mainstream menu that has a little of this and a little of that but nothing really unique. I can get that at any ol chain restaurant down the street.

They do have a lot in common!! lol thats too funny!! I don't think I ever tried the croissants :confused3 we were only there once for breakfast and I think I got a mediocre omelet. Guess I'll have to go back so I can try a croissant! HAHA darn!

Oh that sounds delicious!! I wish I could've gone back then. I hate how they have standardized everything from food to gift shops with only a couple of unique things. But I must say that I did see ONE waiter at Sci Fi in skates. Maybe its optional now? :confused3

lol well we did get the breakfast croissant once but it was pretty bleh. The regular croissants were so good though. yum and i love that u are using needing to try a croissant as your excuse to go back! :rotfl:

DH thinks I should be a founding member! Say no to chunks!:lmao:

hehe! love it!

Day 5: Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show

DisneyWorld2009160.jpg

We were kinda worried about going Spirit of Aloha because it recieves so many negative reviews here on the DIS. We wanted to go to something with all you can drink so it was between this and HDDR. I know many people on the disboards are big HDDR fans but after watching a youtube video we decided it was definitly not something we wanted to see (sorry HDDR fans!!)

So we arranged for Cat 3 seating at the 8pm show. We arrived at the Poly and it was still lightly raining so we got our pics taken inside and we also got leid!!

DisneyWorld2009153.jpg
DisneyWorld2009154.jpg

We were seated soon enough and even though we had reserved cat 3 seating we still had front row seats!! We were just off to the side, but that was a-ok with us!

DisneyWorld2009168.jpg

our view

The place where they have the show is pretty nice! my only complaint would be the tables are pretty close together!

We were erved Coconut Bread, Salad with Mango type dressing and fresh pineapple. We were also asked what we wanted to drink.

DisneyWorld2009163.jpg

Our waiter was great! very friendly and very fast!! Alocohol was brought to our table all through the night and we were never short on it!! It was great!!

I took my first bite of coconut bread, bracing myself for the awfulness that the dis people told me to expect. I was completely surprised when I tasted the most yummy bread of ALL TIME! It was SOOOOOOOO good!!! We ate almost this whole platter lol We were offered more but we declined, since the main part was coming up next.

DisneyWorld2009173.jpg

platter!

DisneyWorld2009172.jpg

my plate

DisneyWorld2009170.jpg

craigs plate

The goodness didnt stop at the appitizers. Everything here was wonderful!!! The ribs and chicken were GREAT (and fully coooked!) The rice was tasty and the veggies were done just right!!

Next up was the chocolate volcanoes.

DisneyWorld2009175.jpg

It was like a weird chocolate mouse, and Im not a mousse person but I still ate a bit of it and liked it. Craig REALLY liked his.

Now onto some other thoughts.... I didnt like that there were no drinks I enjoyed drinking. Im a fruity drink kinda girl and they only had beer and wine. I settled for a Rose wine and while it did the job, I wasnt really enjoying it.

Craig is a beer man... really he loves his beer but he was not impressed by the beer here. He said it went warm and flat very quickly and according to his beer expertise it was clearly the bottom of the keg beer.

I tried his beer... and yet again it tasted like beer to me. But he is the beer expert so I took his word on it! Now you should also note that this did not stop him from drinking plenty of the free beer anyhow!

As for the show, yes I agree the first part could use some new ideas. It wasnt nearly as bad as people made it sound though! We enjoyed it and we also liked that there was a break while the food was served so you didnt have to pay complete attention to the show and we could talk to one another

The second part of the show was fab-u-lous!! The dancing was wonderful and of course the fire dancer took the cake!!

After dinner we ended the night by hanging around the Poly on the beach and snuggling in the Hammock. :lovestruc

I definitly will say this though... I can see why many people dont like this if they have children, I dont think its a show that a kid could go to and really enjoy however if you are looking for a romantic fun adult night out this is a great choice!

All in all we both agrees it was our favorite meal of the trip!! 10/10!!

uP next: Lunch at Typhoon Lagoon

Apparently at Disney World, SunnyD doesn’t expire till 3009!!

SEP-30-09

:ccat:

BTW - loving your reviews! I've only done the DDP once -- we did the deluxe plan for 4 days. A 5th day of deluxe would have been lethal, but we survived the four and loved every bite (and every new pound of bodyfat we got to take home as a souvenier!)

I love your review of the luau!! We almost went there spontaneously but they were booked that night and the lady said they weren't open on the only other night we could (Sunday)! So we did go to HDDR! I want to do the luau next time!! That food looks better, even though it seems to be the same stuff just cooked to fit the theme.
