Okay, I know it says these aren't permitted but even in that brochure booklet that we've all received lots of people are wearing them. I really want to run using mine. Will they take them away or do they just discourage it?? Anyone know from past experience?

I'm not going to die if I don't have them but it will make my run a lot easier.

I have an MP3 player that I use all the time while running...it's teeny-tiny...Last year I clipped it onto the waistband of my shorts, ran the headphone cord up thru my shirt and wore my headphones around my neck before the start....no one ever said a word to me about it. I will admit, though, that I didn't even use it at all (which for me is UNHEARD of!). I was so distracted by the excitement, sights, other sounds, etc. that I didn't need it!

One caution....there are areas of the course that are somewhat narrow and can be a bit *congested*.....if you have your headphones on just be aware of other folks around you....we wouldn't want any accidents!

That's a good point Snow White, I keep forgetting abt everything else there is to see and hear and do. I just think abt how bored I am on my long runs--but you are right, the actual race will probably provide its own excitement!

We have small dollar store radios. My DSis and I are each carrying one. They aren't the best radios but they have a small light as well, so we are bringing them. If we need to toss them because of the rules, then no big loss. We plan on walking with only 1 headphone in anyway, so we can talk (as usual). :hyper2:

I am running the full this year for the first time! I plan on having my IPOD in my fanny pack (with camera and powergel). I always run with my music and believe that I will need inspiration sometime after mile 13 -- that is when I plan on putting on my headphones. I hear that miles 17-23 are long and lonely - after you leave AK. I don't listen to my music loud, I am running with my niece and husband, we chat the entire time. (we run at a pace slow enough to hold a conversation easily  )
Good Luck!

They won't take them away--but in some capacities it can inhibit your enjoyment of the day--they will be playing music in the parks when you run through. Be sure to enjoy your time there. If you find you are not enjoying it...crank up the tunes!

I've decided to leave my good CD player at home, but take my (cheap) tape player/radio. I don't expect to use it until everyone else speeds away from me, leaving me alone and in their dust. pirate:

i agree that you won't need them -- you'll chat with folks the whole way, enjoy the scenery, sounds and excitement -- pray and thank the good Lord you are there and capable of completing it and to give you strength to the finish line

well, that's my plan anyhow

don't sell your experience short with distractions -- my first 5 miler event I was very worried about not having my music and didn't miss it at all -- the event will go much faster with your adrenaline and all that's going on!

Debbie, I assure you you will not be left alone. I will not be "running" (LOL) away from anybody, except of course the sweeper truck. My goal is to stay in front of him.
