If I want the really wild thrill rides I'll go to Six Flags. When I go to Disneyland I'm expecting the majority of rides to be for the whole family.

And of the new attractions in Carsland, 2/3 will be able to be ridden by small children. That's a majority.

Add in all of the attractions listed on Disneyland's website and only 16/89 have a height requirement of any kind (and that includes RSR). So only 18% of the rides at Disneyland Resort have a height requirement - I think they're doing a pretty good job of gearing the "majority" of rides for the entire family.

I personally am really hoping that they can keep it at 40 inches, or 42 at the most. I agree with some previous posters that making a ride so appealing to a certain age group, then making it off limits is a little, well, unfair for lack of a better word.

Well, Cars wasn't just a kid's movie. None of the Pixar films are. Pixar is VERY good at making films that appeal to *everyone*. We watched WallE with my MIL, who isn't fluent in English, and there's not THAT much talking in the movie to begin with, and she and my son were crying and laughing at all the right places, because Pixar is just THAT good at making movies that everyone can get into.

Sally's hidden rear-end tattoo isn't something you'd see in a movie just for kids, and that's just one example that shows the movie is for all.

Now I will say that I had frustration with Universal's Wizarding World, because THE headliner ride is 48", and I didn't know if my son would be that. Many took issue with me because someone that small "shouldn't" be into the story. Yeah, well, good luck with a kid not being aware of Harry Potter! :rotfl: But with them, ALL of the HP themed rides have height restrictions; there is no place for a little kid to experience a HP ride at all.

But with Carsland, that's not true as far as I can tell. There are other rides.

This one is a convertible that, if it's like TT, will go upwards of 60 mph at one point. In an ordinary seatbelt. If it's like TT, that is. I mean, this could go down to seatbelt laws, right? Those laws are VASTLY different from CA to FL, so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up being different.

I think we're looking at different sides of the same point. One of the things that so many of us love about Disney and Pixar is that there's something for everyone: movies that appeal to kids and have humour and a plot that adults can enjoy too, unlike some shows that kids love but are unwatchable for an adult. To me, Disneyland has always found that elusive middle ground too. The kids love the rides and characters, but the rich theming and attention to detail makes it enjoyable for adults. In my mind, making a ride like RSR for 48" and up totally misses that sweet spot. It would be like making a princess themed attraction off limits to 5 year olds. Sure, there's lots of older kids and adults who love Cars, but a huge portion of the demographic that are Cars fans are the 3-8 year old set. Something like Indy is a different story; sure lots of preschoolers love Indy, but they're not the primary audience, so it makes sense to make a ride that preschoolers can't ride.

As I've said before, it's just my opinion. But I'm also pretty confident that they'll be able to make a thrilling ride that's under 48 inches. We'll have to wait and see.

There are 5/6/7/8 year olds who make the 48" height requirement. Does every child? No - but I disagree that it is like making princesses off limits to all 5 y/o. And for the all of the other children who don't make the height requirement, it's not like there are *no* Cars attractions they can ride. They'd be able to ride both Luigi's Flying Tires and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.

How many teenagers do you know that want to ride Storybook Land Canal Boats, Heimlich's Chew Chew Train, the Carousels or a dozen other rides. There are far fewer rides that teenagers would like then there are rides that little kids can ride and enjoy. If Disneyland is supposed to be for whole families then they need to have more rides older kids would enjoy.

I will comment on the idea that "Cars is a kid's thing". While I don't think that the height requirement will be 48", I don't agree that Cars is a kid's thing. And this is certainly not Disney's mentality either. At both Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland they have "Toy Story Playland" (a land dedicated to Toy Story themed stuff, similar to Carsland)...

Now that is what DCA needs is a Toy Story themed land. Kids may enjoy the Cars movies, but as an adult I didn't care for it. Not sure why they built such a huge section of the park about the Cars movies. Most other Pixar movies were much better...especially the Toy Story movies.

a) Toy Story is already represented in Toy Story Midway Mania and Buzz Lightyear AstroBlasters. You also have TS references in several of the live entertainment shows.

b) Cars is MUCH bigger for merch. I think I've read somewhere (but not completely sure) that Cars has had the most success of any Pixar movie when it comes to selling other products.

a) I understand there is already Toy Story Midway Mania at DCA, and Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters at DL (but now that I've experienced TSMM, the Astroblaster ride is under-impressive. But even with those two rides, it's under-represented when you consider there are whole lands for the Bugs Life and Cars movies.

b) I don't doubt the merchandise is a big seller for Cars...but that stuff can be sold at any store in the parks.

What type of ride would you add to represent Toy Story? Cars lends itself well to the speed racers, and the whole backdrop of Monument Valley.

When DH and I challenge each other on the Midway Mania and I win, it's a great ride. When I lose on Astroblasters, DH can't talk me into going on it again.

There are multiple Star Wars movies, Pirates, and Indiana Jones, but only one ride per series.

I don't have a specific Toy Story ride in mind that needs to be added, and I don't think there needs to be multiple rides from a given movie (as you pointed out, most of the movies that are represented by a ride, has only one ride).

I'm just saying that since they are now building entire lands themed around entire movies, they could've done better than Cars.

My 6 & 8 year olds measure in at just over 50 inches (yes, they are currently the same height!). As a matter of fact my 6 year old actually hit 48 inches last July when she was 5.5. I will of course be sad if my true Cars lover, DS (3), can't go on, but I think it's a mistake to say that even if it did have the 48 in height requirement, it wouldn't be a ride made for young kids. I still think my older girls are young kids.

Not sure if this means anything or not but Disneyworld has a similar ride just called something different...I think test track? but the height reqrmt. for that is only 40" I am going to assume that the Cars ride will be the same, but I guess I really don't know

As stated several posts back, the laws (and safety policies) that theme parks must adhere to in FL and CA are not the same.

ETA: That's weird. My quote quoted your ticker.

I get people asking a question, I to have been very curious about what the requirements will be but what I don't get are those people who just complain.

For me going to Disneyland (vacation) is about spending time with my kids and enjoying time with my spouse and having time that we usually do not have. I for one am excited that Disney is opening a new land, I think it looks amazing and for us it may be that our 4 year old will not be able to ride but WE will still have FUN. Disney is for everyone but not everything will fit one person 100% of the time, that is just how it is.

If you don't like Cars Land, then don't go to that land, if you are upset with Disney for having requirements that you feel are to high or unfair to your children then don't go to Disneyland. I am personally looking forward to all the changes and am very excited to get to spend time with my family.

Yes, I complained about the possible height requirement.
I love Disneyland. I have chosen a trip to DL over many other great places over the past 30+ years. But I do not put it on a pedestal and worship it.
I would wager that the majority of DL lovers have something they would change or do differently; and it's OK to say there is something I don't like.
Mr. Disney would not mind.

My only complaint is that they don't have official height requirements out yet!

I know a lot of people with kids want to let them know what they can/can't ride so they aren't disapointed when they get to DL/DCA. Makes it so much easier on parents to be able to avoid that ride area if they know their child can't ride.

I can't believe people would complain about one ride. There are many rides for little ones (I have one who will be tall enough in Sept. and one that won't). This will not be the end of the world for my kids. They are just happyto be going. Kids are allowed to learn about rules and regulations. Not everything goes their way and tha't OK.

And only one of them is even a Disney movie.

That's because the ticker is part of the post not part of the signature.

My guess is that they do not have an offical ruling on the hieght requirements, as they are still testing the rides.

I agree with this. I am hoping the height requirement is not 48 inches as DS7 is only 46.5 inches and we would love to go on that ride. However, if they make it 48 inches, we will still have a blast on all the under 48 inch stuff. And CarsLand will still be amazing to see and explore.

Disney wanted to add something to significant to Disney California Adventure park. They needed something whose theme can fit with the California theme. Cars and Route 66 fits the California theme. Toy Story does not. Yes they added Toy Story Midway Mania to DCA. But that was added in a way to fit the theme of Paradise Pier as a boardwalk game. And it does fit there. I personally have never been a big fan of the whole Paradise Pier theme as it evokes a cheap carnival type area. This was something Walt Disney disliked and he purposely built Disneyland as a contrast to that.

With that said, Disney has done a good job moving PP to something that feels more Disney and it does not have the strong sense of cheap carnival that it used to.

Regardless, the Toy Story theme does not fit easily into a California theme. Little Mermaid does in that it connects with the ocean and I think the LM ride was a good addition. If you look at the Pixar movies, another one that could have fit into DCA was Nemo and its ocean theme. Disney built the sub ride around Nemo at DL. They do have Turtle Talk at DCA. I am not sure which other Pixar movies might work at DCA. Cars was a natural choice even though it was not one of my favorite Pixar movies personally.
