Rachael Ray-isms???

Shut the front door = ****. I think Stacy London popularized it - she was certainly doing it long before RR.

My only Rachel Rayism is actually a Bourdainism -- that she did to food what Hitler did to Poland.

Every time I've heard her use EVOO, she has also said Extra Virgin Olive Oil. So, why bother with the initials??

Exactly!!! It's the same redundancy in her cookbooks. Many recipes state 2 TB EVOO (extra virgin olive oil). Twice around the pan--eyeball it.

I use to love her show about 6-7 years ago, even met her once at a book signing, but gradually grew tired of her and her cutesy sammies and such.

Still, some of her recipes are pretty good.

That's what I was going to say...drives me crazy! Say EVOO or say Extra Virgin Olive Oil, one or the other. If you don't think people know what EVOO is...don't use it. There I feel better now.:snooty:

She drives me nuts! I used to really like her but she's so over the top with the hand movements and the ridiculous sayings.

You said it! I used to love her show but as she was on longer she got more childish and over the top. The silly sayings, that giggle :crazy2: all of her exaggerated movements and "My Sweetie". Way to much.

I can't stand her. Hate her giggle, hate her baby talk and I even hate how she gestures with her hands. Needless to say I try to avoid seeing her at all costs - lol

I won't watch anything she is on

"sammies" :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:
Grrrrr...hate it!!!

Shut the Front Door is the not swearing way of saying **** or shut the F-word up. It's like when I was a kid someone would say Jesus, Mary and Joseph because they wanted to swear without swearing. It's the same thing. If someone didn't know and heard someone say "Jesus, Mary and Joseph" they would be like ? yeah? what about them.

I think Rachel Ray says Shut the Door because she's trying to be so goody goody that Shut the Front door is too naughty for her so she's trying to clean up even that expression.

I actually like her. I don't mind the stoup, sammies, EVOO. I give her credit for teaching me how to cook simple meals. When I decided to stay at home, I had to take over cooking details. DH always did the cooking! Her easy recipes made cooking fun and gave me confidence in the kitchen.

I did have to stop watching her talk show because she repeats herself way too much. Every time she would add nutmeg "something to make them go hummmm", would drive me nuts. Throwing the salt for good luck is one thing, but you don't have to say it everytime!

I am guilty of saying "Yum-o" every now and again!;)

I think we were separated at birth.

same here

....and MY personal 'nails-down-the-chalkboard'?? When she says "...I KNOW-W-W-W-W-W-W...."! UGGGHHHH!!!! :badpc:

::yes::

Sammies is the one that gets me. Can't stand her! oh yeah and the O-V-O-O...

seriously annoying!

I'm curious in the age demographic of those who think "shut the front door" or "shut the door" means "shut up."

I'm 50, and trust me, it used to mean "you're kidding me!" It was an expression of astonishment.

I'm guessing Rachael Ray is using it the old way and doesn't even realize it now has a new meaning. Someone needs to tell her and she needs to stop using it - it's not really appropriate on her show IMO.

Expressions change meaning over time. My mom used to say she was "fagged out" meaning "fatigued" until us kids set her straight back in the 70's!

I'm 40 and I think it mean "shut the f up!" but in the context of "you're kidding me!" and not "stop talking".

When someone says something you just can't believe, some people will respond with "shut up"...or "no way" or "you're kidding me".

Aw,that's something I didn't know! I know "shut up" is sometimes used in astonishment, but I've never heard anyone say the other as anything but a way of trying to get people to be quiet - right now!

OP here. I have to say that not only does Rachael Ray seem over exaggerated these days but so does Paula Deen. A few months ago I saw one of her first episodes of Paula's Dishes (or something like that) and I have to say that I really liked it.

But these days, it's almost as if she's overly dramatic when she talks and whenever she takes a bite of something. I really wish these people would act like themselves and not have to seem like they are trying to hard. Even though I really like her shows too, I have to watch them sparingly or else, my head hurts. :rotfl:

I have never seen her daytime show and stopped watching her cooking shows years ago.

I gotta agree about Paula Deen. I loved her old shows. I DVRd her new show yesterday and had to delete it a few minutes in. She had some football player on and she was all over the guy. I want to watch you cook not fake flirt with guys. I will admit I do like Jamies new show. He is like the old Paula. Sweet stories that go along with the food.

"Sammies" is enough reason to never ever watch her show.

I've only seen bits and pieces of her show, a long time ago. Just couldn't stand her, and DH had expressed his disdain for her, so I was already jaded. ::yes:: Did she do a show about spending $40 a day on food when traveling? I think that's the show DH talked about, and how she kept it to $40 one episode by stiffing the waiter. How obnoxious.

I don't watch her, but I can't stand YUMMO! Are you 4? No? Then the word is tasty, delicious, scrumptious or any other grown up word.

Ha. I watch every now and then, but my mil says this about almost everything new we eat.

There was a DJ here who had compiled a list of thing Rachel Ray says that sound dirty - and he had edited them all into one 5 minute loop. Was hilarious. Wish I could find it somewhere :rotfl:

Can't stand her (because of all of the above) but I do like her magazine, probably because I can't hear her.

It's equally as annoying to me as "ressies" "souvies" "vacay" etc.
