My husband will be running in the half marathon PHiladelphia run as well. He's so excited for it. Feel bad for him that he's going by himself. It may be too overwhelming to go as entire family just yet.

I'll let you know his time later on.

HI Dissers -- My husband had a great time at the Philadelphia Distance Race. His time was 2 hours and 11 minutes.

It was well-organized he said, beautiful weather, great bands, lots of freebies. He only stopped for one time to get rid of his gel slip-ons inside his sneakers, which he didn't like afterall for a long run. He likes the gels slip-ons for 5K races though.

He's my inspiration and I admire him.

His next half-marathon race will probably be the Delaware Canal race on Sunday, November 4. There's also a 5K, 10K, full marathon on that race too.

Run on team!!

SeeDisney - Congrats to DH with an AWESOME time! He is speedy! Glad he had a good race. :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Can't wait to hear more reports! :cheer2:

Hiya!

So the absolutely crazy one who just finished C25K in August completed her first half marathon in just under 3 hours (walk/run) today. I don't think my personal time is posted yet, but I nearly burst into tears I was so amazed. My goal was 3.5 hours.

The difference? It was cool! As a beginning runner I suffered training thru the third hottest St. Louis summer on record. Lucky me caught a cloudy, cool Sunday morning to try my first half marathon.

The race was well organized, the course was primarily flat, and running over the MO river on the Highway 370 was pretty cool! I am so proud of this accomplishment that if I could, I'd wear my medal all over the place!:goodvibes

Happy trails!

SeeDisney: Please pass along my congrats to your husband. Great job! :thumbsup2

Colleen: Fantastic effort on your first half marathon! :woohoo: Way to go!

I also did the Philadelphia Distance Run this Sunday, and came in with a finishing time of 2 hours and 13 minutes, shaving 8 minutes off my prior half marathon time. :) Philly is a great course to run, very flat and the crowds are wonderful.

Colleen, I absolutely agree with you about cool weather making all the difference. The previous weekend I ran a 15K and almost died; felt dead at mile four and ended up doing a run/walk to finish that race, all the while wondering how I was going to do the Philly race. But with the low temps and humidity, I managed to run the entire race on Sunday.

For Philly, my 5K time was a little slower than usual because you run through Center City and even though the crowd is moving, I got stuck behind some slow people. That slowed me down by about two minutes. At some point, I realized I could hop on the sidewalk and run around them. But I probably should have done that sooner. By the time we hit Fairmount Park, the crowd had thinned out enough that I could run at my regular pace, but I couldn't make up any lost time.

For me, this was a huge confidence boost for the Donald. Up until Sunday, the farthest I'd gone on a LSR was 10 miles. Needless to say, I'm very happy and proud of myself.

SeeDisney - Congrats to your DH. WTG!

Colleen - Congrats! Great pace!

jam217 - Congrats! Great pace also!

Congratulations, Colleen! I also did the Lewis and Clark half-marathon. It was a perfect morning for the race. I also took a picture with Dean Karnazes (the ultramarathoner who finished 50 marathons in 50 days).

I finished the Philly Distance Run in 3:09:53 (chip time). I was surprised at how flat the course was (relatively speaking). I also had a great time visiting with several friends from the Disney Deads virtual running group -- even managed to see the traveling King Tut exhibit, the Liberty Bell, and work in a Duck tour (complete with wacky quacker). The weather was perfect, and the course in Philly is beautiful and passes so many Philadelphia landmarks – I watched “Rocky Balboa” last night and kept saying “Hey, I ran by that! I was there!” And the Liberty Bell medal is huge and really nice.

I am very sad to say that on Friday night after I'd arrived in Philadelphia, my oldest brother called to tell me they’d put my dad in the hospital because his kidneys had shut down. (He had a stroke last November, and he'd suffered a long and steady decline in health since then.). By Saturday at 2AM, he was dead. Both my husband and mom said for me to stay there and finish the race – that there was nothing for me to do until the funeral. It was a surreal experience for me as I began the race Sunday thinking, “This is my first full day without a dad.” I tried to think about some of our more memorable times together – a memory a mile. He was a good dad, a good man, and certainly one of the most influential people in my life. They say you can’t choose your family, but given the choice, I’d have picked him. Post-race, Southwest was kind enough to move me to an earlier flight (gratis) so I made it back home in time for the last hour of visitation. It was a sad day, despite almost perfect race conditions and the company of many friends.

Looking forward to happier times and the ToT in October.

Wendy, so so sorry about your father. Good for you to focus on the happy memories:grouphug: :grouphug:
