Hi there everyone,

Just got back from a 13K Thanksgiving race (even though it's not thanksgiving yet). My husband ran with me and we finished in 1:19:15 for a 9:39 pace overall. Not too shabby and the weather was PERFECT! It finally feels like fall over here in Japan :)

Best of luck to everyone racing this weekend!

Kristin - WTG! Congrats! Congrats to your DH as well.

Kristin - Nice job on the 13K! I'd never heard of a 13K before the Tower of Terror race; can't believe there's another!

Well DH and I decided to head to Pinehurst today to do the "Turkey Trot" half marathon. I figured I had to put the miles in anyway for training, so why not let someone else chart the miles for me? I'll tell you why not -- because it was HILLY! (Okay, so traveling to the Sandhills should have clued me in to this ahead of time!) I accidentally stopped my watch at 36 minutes so I had no idea what my pace was. My goal was under 2:00 and I finished at 2:03. Still, I'm pretty happy to have conquered those hills and to have beaten my pr by 35 minutes. Only got passed by 3 people and did lots of passing, so I think I had negative splits which was one of my goals. Now I just have to go twice as far in January! :rotfl:

Just got back from running the Timberlake ½ marathon.

This race is an out and back on the Eglin reservation, and sported about 200 runners, both for the 5K and the ½.

It was quite nipply out this morning (39 degrees). Yes, that’s cold in these parts, and since I’m such a girly-man when it comes to cold, I was whining about it. Anyhoo, put my running gear on, threw on a sweatshirt, stuffed some Gu in my pocket, and headed out the door.

Arrived and picked up my packet. Went back to the truck to enjoy the warmth, pinned the bib to my shirt, and then made it over to the starting line.

The horn blows and we’re off. Besides the water stops every mile and a half, you were one with the forest, and the other runners. There is nothing out there. 6.5 miles out, 6.5 miles back. Around mile 11 I started running out of steam, but sucked it up and finished in 2:47:11 (12:44 pace). I guess I can live with that.

I did see, and said hi to Matt’s wife.

Chili and beer was available after the race, along with the normal after race eats.

All-in-all, it was a beautiful day for a long run. The race was small and well put together.

I’ll do this one again.

rosy1020/Kristin Congratulations!! what a great pace!! :cool1:
HMHunters/Renee FANTASTIC job!! New PR!! :woohoo:
Big Vic So proud of you for getting out there!! Hopefully, that will be practice for the weather in January at WDW! That IS a great pace with all of the troubles you've overcome!!

I did see, and said hi to Matt’s wife.

Vic, I assume you are not talking about me...my DH is Matt.:rotfl: But really! WTG on that race. You did great.

Renee WTG on your PR! That is a wonderful time for a HILLY race.

Kristin - WTG to you and your DH. Sounds like a GREAT time!

Renee - Congrats on the PR and an AWESOME time on your half! If it makes you feel any better, I also missed my goal time for my half by 3 minutes :) As you said, it's still an accomplishment.

Vic - Way to go on you half! Sounds like a nice trail to run and that's a great time for that distance. What I wouldn't give to run in the trees instead of alongside traffic congested Japanese roads...seriously the exhaust fumes are starting to get annoying. I can't imagine running in 39 degree weather either. It's in the low 70s here and that feels cold to me sometimes. Crazy for a gal originally from NJ, I know. Hopefully it won't be that cold in Jan!

Congrats to Kristin, Renee, and Vic! (Renee, I told you it was hilly! I remember it being hillier than the Run to Victory, but I do have an unreliable memory. :rolleyes1 Hope you got a good shirt out of it anyway!)

I spent today doing a turkey trot with a bird mascot of a different sort -- a raven trot! Raven Rock State Park hosted an inaugural 5- and 10-mile trail race, the Raven Rock Rumble. I am pretty familiar with these trails as I've walked them with my kids many times, so I checked with the race director to see if I could walk it and he said he'd work something out. Since this was the same really nice guy who'd let me do his trail marathon in Greensboro, I felt pretty confident that he'd let me finish -- and he did, even though it took me almost as long as my half marathon last weekend. (But, apparently, "bonus" miles are a fairly common phenomenon with trail races and this RD had kindly marked each mile -- including the 10th one about a half mile before the actual finish line. :) ) I finished dead-last (by a margin of probably an hour or so). This race most mostly about fun in the trees though -- and it was a gorgeous day with great cool weather and wonderful Fall colors. Good way to get in some hilly miles with good support. I had a really good time and got a nice tech shirt to boot.

Way to go, Wendy!! Trail races look like such fun...really!! :goodvibes
