GO BILL AND GO JEN. Good luck this weekend to you and anyone else racing!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: GO WISH TEAM GO!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

The race was pretty good. It was close to the beach so it was very windy which was much better than the heat and humidity closer to our house. It was a local race that seems to be growing each year. I think there were 948 people announced that signed up. It was a 2 mile out and back in some neighborhoods with all the Christmas lights on. It was good and I actually ran the entire distance with out stopping, which is a first for me. I finished in 17:52 and felt fairly good at the end. Which is surprising since I finished 20 miles about 9 hours before.

Billy did the kids race and beat Zippy the Gecko (the running store mascot) and got to meet Santa at the finish line.

Jacksonville Bank 1/2 Marathon report:

Saturday- we drove to Jax and did some shopping and too much eating (of unfamiliar foods- not smart.) Went to bed sort of early at the hotel, but woke up a ton at night both from anticipation and the insanely loud a/c. Oh, and then woke up to listen to the rain...

Sunday- put on shorts and t-shirt, WISH visor, rain jacket. Carried iPod and water bottle (from the hotel vending machine- do I look like a pro or what?!) The shuttle bus was right on time. We were at the race in the drizzle at about 6 a.m. It started at 7 a.m. Apparently it was a good thing I decided not to turn on the TV at 4 a.m. (in the interest of my family not killing me). Turns out there was a tornado watch (or so a possibly exaggerating runner told me). Dumped the jacket in my drop off bag.

Race start- there were about 3000 people between the half and full. They didn't really give us any instructions as to where to line up so I just got around the middle of the pack. The first couple of miles were crowded and slow... we ran down a busy street (cops blocked off our lane) and then into residential areas. The water stops were well maintained, and a few people came out to cheer. I was having a great time the first 2-3 miles. Somewhere around mile 7 the full people kept going and we turned around. The novelty wore off about mile 8. Mile 8-12 were fairly desperate (can you say BMZ:laughing: ). I didn't stop (except at water stops), but my plodding slowed. Finally, we ran across a soccer field and on to a track to the finish line.

Pros: shuttle bus was right on time, volunteers/water stations were great (I drank from my bottle over about 12 miles, but also used the stops), bag dropoff worked well, it was pretty flat... rain stopped (although wind picked up).

Cons: I may be too spoiled by Disney- I NEED entertainment- it was sooo boring, HOT- seriously hot and humid (72 degrees and 74% humidity or close to that), T-shirt is horribly small and required the purchase of a men's version. Several women told me the same thing about the shirts. Oh, and they hand you your medal in a little bag- sure it's a bit cheesy to put it on your neck, but I want more presentation than just a baggy!

I told myself at mile 8 that I was never, ever doing this again after Goofy. I'm feeling slightly better now, but I'm thinking my new Goofy race pace is officially "10 minutes in front of the sweeper bus!"

My time was approximately 2:10. I was too tired to go look at the chip results. After taking a shower at the hotel, we drifted over to the Cheesecake Factory. I had a mood-improving Belgian Waffle with chocolate. ;) My stupid IT band started to hurt again, so I'm a bit limpy...

That's it. I'm glad it's over. :rolleyes1

Jen: I know you hit the BMZ but that is due to the fact that it was so hot and humid...I think you did a GREAT job and your pace was still really solid!!! :goodvibes You'll do great at WDW...no doubt!!! Congrats on a good race...and PD that the IT band heals up!!!

Bill: Nice job in the race..awesome pace!!!! :thumbsup2 Especially considering the 20 miler just before it!!! Way to rock it!

Yea Bill and Jen! Great pace you guys! :thumbsup2

Congrats Bill and Jen! :thumbsup2

Jen, I think your time was awesome! I'm just hoping to complete my first half in March around 2:30 and that is being pretty optimistic. :lmao:

Oh, no! It is considered cheesy to wear your medal after the race? I guess I'll just be cheesy girl cause I'm wearing it in March! :rotfl2:

Thanks for everyone's support! I feel like a whiny baby. I guess nothing compares to running at Disney with WISHers!

Shan- you made me laugh. I don't think it's cheesy to wear your medal at all! I just felt self-conscious (and sweaty) when the Disney people put the medal on my neck at the Minnie Marathon (although deep down I liked it!) That's a ton better than being handed a little tiny baggy with your medal in it by some kid at the end.:rolleyes1

You know, I swore off entering any more halfs, but I might be able to deal with a 2:30ish pace at the ING Atlanta... DH's family lives in Peachtree City... maybe I could do a little manipulation and see if we could just happen to be in town that weekend... hmmm...

Jen - Ya, I agree. The little baggie does seem a tad uneventful. Seems like they should have taken them out of the baggies before handing them out? What is the standard? I've only done two races. One was the RFTT and the other just gave out T-shirts beforehand. I personally would like a marching band playing specifically for me when I cross the finish, but something tells me that won't happen at the ING. They'll probably be trying to pack up. :rotfl2:

I'll probably wear my ING medal for at least a week. I know the people at Kroger will be very impressed. :lmao: (That is about the highlight of a normal week for me - going to the grocery store.) :rotfl2:

Sign up for the ING! Cecilia is running it, too. Maybe both of you together can drag me across the finish.
DH is gonna try to beat last year's time. He promised he would run with me at the Disney half in 2009. :rolleyes1
