Good luck all!

Looking forward to reading the race reports!

I guess I should have updated the calendar! I decided not to run a 10k this weekend. First, there were no 10k races in my area this weekend, and since i missed my 8 mile LR last weekend because I was away, I decided to get that in this weekend, so I will be out on a training run tomorrow. So, I have no race report!

Good Luck to everyone that is racing this weekend!! Can't wait to hear your reports!

Good luck to all who are running this weekend. Look forward to hearing about everything.

Bill

Good morning everyone!

Today was the National Child Abuse Prevention Month 5K.

It was a bit nippley out this morning. The thermometer at the house said 45 degrees, but we had winds out of the north around 15 mph. So, it was a little cool. No, it was freaking cold! I hate the cold.

The race started and finished at the Niceville Community Center. A nice out back with a couple of very small hills (I don't like hills. I don't care how big or little they are). The race started at 0800, and since it was just up the street I didn't leave the house until after 0700.

Arrived and checked in. I then beat feet back to the truck to stay warm. A few of the Sherifff's Office folks showed up a little later. I think the total number of runners was around 150.

Around 0800 we lined up and were off. The course was pretty much through the neighborhoods behind the community center, with a water stop at the half way point. Nothing of real interest to report. However, the course length was as advertised. It ended up being 5.18K and my finish time was 34:37. Splits were 10:35, 11:06, 11:06 and 9:55. I felt good, but I need to start doing a little speed work. Too many older dudes running faster than me. Can't have that. :rolleyes1

Hung out a little while afterwards. Ate a hot dog and watched the awards ceremony. Three of our folks placed within their age groups. Fun was had by all.

Next up is the Panhandle Heritage 5K on 4/28.

:)

Vic--I had to laugh when you said that 45 degrees was cold....you better not move to the northeast, you would not have liked today's temps! :rotfl2: It was in the 30's when I headed out for my run this morning.

Glad to hear the race went well. Sounds like a nice race, and you had a great pace! Keep up the good work!

Vic - Brrr! Sounds like it was a fun race, even with the cooler temps. WTG!

Vic, glad you got to run. I'm snowed in here. I would have loved that 45 degree event. Sorry you've got elders passing you by; you've got time to get it going with your training and speed work. Go for it!
:dance3:
Hope everyone else that had an event did well!

Nice job on the race, Vic! Way to go on the pace!

Want to come share in our 24 degree weather with 20 mph winds tomorrow morning in good old Ohio?? ;)

Steve

Thanks everyone.

Steve

Nope! I was born and raised in NE Ohio. I think I'll stay in Florida. :)

Unfortunately, I don't have anything to report. :guilty:

I drove to Dallas/Ft. Worth (6 hours) with the intent of particpating in the Race for the Cure 5K. 18,000 people were expected to particpate. Whew! The weather forecast for the race was 35 degrees, heavy winds/freezing rain/snow showers (after being in the mid-80's all week). My friend, Cindy (who lives in the area) and my DH, Steve, didn't think they would have fun in those conditions. So, I was talked out of participating. We would have had to get up at 6am and drive about 45 min. to get to the race, find a parking space, etc. so Steve and Cindy thought it would be better to sleep in. Can you believe those wimps! ;)

Anyway, we slept in and watched reports of the race on TV. Lo and behold, it did snow on the participants and the wind was fierce. However, the people who particpated looked like they had a good time. Cindy's boyfriend, who lived closer to the race area, managed to run in the race and he snagged lots of goodies for us (Sun chips, tons of Snicker's marathon bars, M&Ms and other candy. Mmmmmm)

Although I didn't participate in the 5K I did manage to have a great time in the big D and I ate LOTS of good food. I think will need to spend the next few weeks working off all those extra calories. Now see, If I would have particpated in the 5K, I wouldn't have to worry so much about it. Ha!

Great job Vic!

Susie, sorry you missed out on your race. I'm sure wind and snow in Dallas would not have been fun though!

Vic, great job on your race. It was also nippley here nad a bit cheeky too (see my race report for an explanation).

Susie, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. There will be other races and they will be without snow. Glad you at least enjoyed yourself.

I did run the Mt. Penn Mud Fest on Saturday and finished 158th out of 800 racers for a really good effort on a brutal course. Here is the link to the story... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1414621
