Whitney Houston Has Passed

Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.

Houston's publicist, Kristen Foster, said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.

News of Houston's death came on the eve of music's biggest night — the Grammy Awards. It's a showcase where she once reigned, and her death was sure to case a heavy pall on Sunday's ceremony. Houston's longtime mentor Clive Davis was to hold his annual concert and dinner Saturday; it was unclear if it was going to go forward.

RIP Whitney. That's so sad and such a waste of amazing talent. Prayers to her daughter, family and friends...

Such a sad waste. :sad2: I just saw people reporting this on Facebook. I wonder what she actually ended up dying from, and why it's not being announced. RIP Whitney.

Sayhello

Sayhello

She was literally just found a few hours ago. It's impossible to know that as of yet.

I alway hoped she would get her act together and make a triumphant comeback. She was an amazingly talented lady. I feel terrible for Her daughter.

What a total waste.

In high school, I wanted to be Whitney. She was pretty, talented, looked good in everything she wore, got to bounce around wearing really cute clothes in that "How Will I Know?" video and just looked so happy. Then she was all dignified and gorgeous in that "Greatest love of All" thing. And she was rich. That's all you need in high school.

I'm going to slap the first person who blames Bobby Brown. I don't like him, but it isn't his fault.

Whitney threw it all away.

Whitney did the best job on the National Anthem I've ever seen anyone do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHmdu_I_0zI&feature=player_embedded

I hope she's happy now. Such a waste, though.

I was a big fan. So very, very sad. :sad1: What a shame.

"Whitney Houston" was one of the first albums I owned when I started getting into music. I listened to the record until I wore it out. When "Whitney" came out, I insisted that my mother drive me to the mall that day. Oh how I loved her! She had one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. And ever will hear. "One Moment in Time" still moves me to tears after all these years.

I was saddened to watch her spiral downward. And I had so hoped for her comeback.
I have to say, I'm not entirely shocked by this news. However, I am deeply saddened. A legend gone.

Very, very sad.

I always loved her music.

She was so talented, and to watch someone with so much talent being taken over by drug abuse is a true tragedy.

She will be missed.

The only video I have of myself as a little girl is me singing "The Greatest Love of All" when I was about 8.

Really sad day.

Before she fell to addiction, she was simply amazing. She always did sing like an angel...

Whitney Houston had all the benefits of fame and fortune and she threw it away. I'll save my sympathies for all of my brothers and sisters who gave their all and who remain unknown.

You can recognize that she threw it all away and still feel sorry for her.

The things we regret the most are almost always the things we did to ourselves.

I don't feel worse for Whitney than I did for all those other people. She also doesn't get my gratitude the way they do.

If you never really liked Whitney, of course you won't care about her death.

And singing a song is not nearly as brave or admirable as fighting for us.

But I hope you will understand that I can both be sorry she threw happiness away and feel badly for her that she did it...as well as feel badly for the ones who gave their lives for me.

We're all capable of mixed emotions. If you don't believe it, ask 10 people how they feel about their mothers. :rotfl:

Few people in history have squandered such a wealth of talent.

If she truly had the greatest love of all she wouldn't have needed to drown/mask her feelings with drugs and alcohol.

Such a waste of one of the most powerful and beautiful voices of the 20th century.

On a side note, as great as her performance of the National Anthem was, it has almost ruined the song since then because everyone seems to want to try to "do it like Whitney". Well, folks, there was only one Whitney, and y'all ain't her. Give it up. I can't stand listening to the latest singer-come-lately butcher our National Anthem. Butcher your own songs and leave our anthem alone. Only Whitney can/could do Whitney. Just like only Mariah Carey can do Mariah Carey.

Yes, sad news but I'm certainly not surprised. I feel for her family. However, let's remember that she had the world on a string but threw it away because of her terrible choices. That's all we can do in life - make the best choices possible.

I said almost this exact thing today at luch in the teacher's room. I kind of got the glare when I said I was never really a fan. She was on top, she had a great voice but I just never got into her. It's too bad she couldn't have kept herself clean, I feel bad for her daughter, a great loss to lose a mother.

I was totally a fan, growing up! I will really miss how I thought of her when I was an early teen. I know she has made awful choices in her later life, but I still respect the singer she used to be, and the talent that she had.

It's sad that we have lost another pop star. I too like her music and the talent that she had.

I just wonder how many people will die before people wake up and learn that mixing drugs and alcohol together can be a deadly mix.

Just my opinion.

No pun intended? ;)

They know. Some can't help themselves. Some want to die. But they know. It's not a secret.

It's just my personal thought process here - I have no insider knowledge or proof or anything - but I think Whitney was ready to go. Heaven knows I could be wrong, but that's what I think.
