Quitting a job - vacation earned

How is the place you are affiliated with the National office. Do they have any pull.

Honestly, what a horrible boss. I don't blame you for leaving. If you could afford it I would change my 5 weeks notice to 2 weeks.

I wish I could afford it but I can't. I'm not here to make waves, I just want my stinkin' 6 days they owe me :) ha ha
 

Where I work you can't take any vacation time once you put in your notice. Now it's at the discretion of the manager and they've been known to let someone take a day or two (for an appointment or school function) but not a whole week. BUT we get paid out whatever is left once we leave.

I would WANT my time. Is there anyway to call out one day every week until it's time to go?
 
So how long have you been with this, specific, office? Understanding 26 years with the prior office.
Well, its hard to say without giving what I do away. My current boss I've worked with for the past 27 years....just exclusively for him one year. He's known me since I was 19.

:) I'd love to call out but it's just not in me to do it. I respect this place too much. I know I shouldn't but I do.
 
Calling out really isn't the answer. They'd probably just dock her pay.

I can understand a company not wanting someone taking time off when they're quitting soon, but it's unreasonable for them not to pay you for it.
 
At my last job, I was not permitted to use the vacation time during my last weeks, but they did pay it out. Having my last 6 days of work be "vacation" didn't make sense from their HR perspective. it was more logical for my last day to be my actual last day, and they paid the vacay out. If I were you, that's what I'd ask for

Yep.

It can create its own problems if the vacation time takes you into another month. Or pay period.

Is it possible, even in a 3 person office, potential vacation time has already been assigned? So there IS no available vacation time in the next 5 weeks? Whether it's a period of "nobody can have time off" or they've already okayed other employees being off?

I think this is why so many people take a week's vacation and then return and put in notice. We have someone currently out on maternity leave. Once she was paid for all accrued days- she turned in her notice.
 
Up here Labour is under provincial jurisdiction and it would be totally illegal to not pay someone their earned vacation time either in time or money. By law all companies have to give 2 weeks vacation and 3 after 5 years.
Is there not something similar in your state?
 
So I just gave my notice (a 5 week notice) that I'm leaving my job. I was hired with 20 days vacation which is accrued each month.

They are not allowing me to use my 6 days vacation before I go. Isn't that wrong? I'm not asking them to pay me out after I leave, I'm asking to use it.

There is only 3 in our office. The other woman has taken several vacation days so far this year. She has the same amount per year as I do.

Any thoughts on what I can say? I talked to my boss today and said this seems like discrimination because you won't allow me to use my vacation however this other woman is out today using vacation.

The are very upset they are losing me. I feel bad however they didn't provide benefits and I'm going somewhere with amazing benefits, more vacation, etc.

Rookie mistake. You need to use the vacation first and then put in your notice after.

Before you put in your notice, you really need to take 10 minutes and think through all the possible ramifications and come up with a plan that allows you to maximize all the benefits/perks you've earned.
 
I'm in Australia where you would be entitled to be paid out your vacation leave that you had accrued and not used when you leave. However, as a supervisor I would be unlikely to allow someone to take a large block of leave after giving notice because I would need them to stay around and finish work, help with handover to new staff etc. Have you clarified that they definitely will not pay it out? Have you offered to just take some long weekends rather than the long block of days so it is less disruptive?
