I began a job search the past week or so. I cannot deal with my new manager. She lies about what she tells me and says I did not tell her. She talks bad about me to my team. I follow her direct orders, she gets mad, and says that is not what I meant, and you know it. She says I am lucky she covers my breaks and lunches (we are half the supervising team we should be- I have been doing the work of three people for months). Well, I began a job search when she ignored me when I asked to use the bathroom. Yesterday the shift was just so bad I put in my notice.

I got so used to hearing how lucky I was to have this job; it pays so well (it does not). It was very nice when I contacted a staffing agency, they loved my resume. While we were on the interview call (where they decide whether or not to take me on- they are a picky agency) she sent out my resume to two different jobs. She said I would pretty much have a job by the tie my two weeks are up.

It was scary to quit, but also freeing. I cannot do much about home stress (caretaker) but I can do something about work stress. This is the first time all of December I am looking forward to Christmas.

Best of luck. :flower3: There are many days I'd do the same thing if I were 15 years younger. I wish you well - come back and update us.

I wish you the best. Someone who is so toxic is difficult to work for so I can understand feeling like you had to take a leap of faith. I don't know what field you work in but I cannot imagine having to ask permission to use the bathroom.

Retail Warehouse.

I can understand if you man a desk/phones or register needing to ask for a restroom break... but ignoring anyone who needs one is akin to abuse in my book as there may be a medical need there.

I wish you the very best for landing a new and MUCH better position with better pay.

Sometimes you gotta do what’s best for you overall. If the place is that toxic I’d leave too.

I did quit a new job without a another one lined up. I knew after two weeks that it was a mistake but I hung in for two more months hoping things would improve, but they didn’t, so I just walked out without notice.

It took several months to find another but I didn’t have to endure the daily stress and toxic atmosphere of that first place.

Best wishes in your search.

My husband was in an extremely toxic, abusive job for 18 years. But the pay, title, and benefits were good...so he just put up with it, and it ruined his mental health, he was AWFUL to be around and, I often said I didn't know if the job or I would kill him first.

I finally forced his hand in July and he applied, and received an offer for a job doing something completely different, for less money. I forced him to take it

He has never been happier, thanks me every day, looks forward to going to work, and is a joy to be around.

All this to say, as scary as it might be, where you'll bloom is still coming...you'll find it!

Good luck 👍

I would HR know that, the issue happened on exit interview. The other things I wouldn't but really one cannot do what you said she did.

Yes, absolutely. Make it known why you quit and tell HR about the issues. It won't help for you, but they should know.

We’ve been having issues at my job with a new secretary too. Granted they still need some training, but some things have gotten out of hand. I don’t think I’ve seen myself or humans who I know very rarely complain or file complaints and grievances actually report and file grievances this much in my life.

I did that once many years ago. I ended up working a couple of long-term full-time positions through a temp agency for a couple of years or so before getting hired by the last one. 25 years later I'm still at that company today. It was scary to quit with the uncertainty but worked out for the best. Good luck!

Good for you!! I just fled a toxic work environment and I actually look forward to going to work again.

When I worked at the insurance call center it was similar to this.

You had 15 mins per day called for me time which could be used for bathroom, personal phone calls, etc. This was timed to the minute just like your breaks and lunches were. Depending on your supervisor you could be asked why you were using this time, what is was for and it was part of your performance metric including if you went over the allotted time.

Some supervisors wanted people on their team to use the computer's notepad (as most of the calls were screen captured, most were also audio recorded and the recording on both was up to 2 minutes past the phone call) to type what they were doing after the phone call ended like "going to the printer" "going to the fax machine" "going to the bathroom"

I had some good supervisors that treated you like an adult and I had some micromanaging power trippin' ones too.

Quit my nursing job of 35 years in October. Used to love work then became miserable, especially over the past two years. And my patients didn’t deserve that. 😕

Didn’t have another job lined up and I’m still looking, but I do know that it won’t be in nursing. My bank account may not be as great 🤣 but my mental health is A++.

I did the same thing three years ago. I had been at the job for about five years, and it was one of those insidious toxic environments that got worse and worse over time. I had about three months of expenses in emergency savings, and I finally just walked out (no two weeks notice, just emailed and said I was done). Took about two weeks to myself instead, just relishing the freedom. Then I signed on with a freelance platform and I've been there ever since. Making twice what I did at the toxic job, treated like an adult, and since I'm freelance I set my own hours and decide which projects to take or reject. Best thing I ever did for myself! So happy you decided to get out of there. Have a very Merry Christmas!
