Quietest resort

Is it just me, but...we've only stayed at BWV and HHI, and we always seem to here people walking on the floor above us. It was especially bad at HHI.

Does Disney skimp on soundproofing the floors, or just in the '96 timeframe for BWV and HHI?

BTW, at BWV, we stayed right above the boardwalk and never heard it. We did here people in the hallways when we stayed close to the elevators, and like I said we COULD REALLY HEAR AND FEEL PEOPLE WALKING OVERHEAD.

We stayed at the BWV last Dec. Our room was on the same level as the lobby - you walked to the shop - turned left just before the elevators and our room was second on the right.
I expected alot of noise as we were at the start of the long corridors and everyone would be going past our room.
Surprisingly we never heard a thing!

We love OKW for all the reasons others have posted...but you may have noise even there. To minimize chances of more than just occasional noise at OKW: IF POSSIBLE, avoid locations where the bus turns around right in front of your unit (squeaky brakes!) or where you are very close to a highway, avoid poolside locations where rambunctious children or adults may bug you, and also be aware that an otherwise lovely and tranquil golf course view may also mean being awakened by an early morning mowing/maintenance crew as well as the sound of golfers teeing off all day long.

However, bottom line is that (no matter where you stay in or around Disney), you are at Disney World and a certain amount of commotion just goes with the territory. Just enjoy being in the midst of so many people having so much fun!

We have always been amazed how quiet it is at SSR--in the room and while walking around.:ssst: We love it because it is like 2 vacation spots in one--the parks and SSR:thumbsup2

The OP might be interested in reading the Unofficial Guide to WDW. Starting in about the 2007 edition, they reviewed the issue of noise at the resorts and identified the quietest rooms.

I will check out the 2007 edition. Thank you for the suggestion.

Your name just doesn't fit the topic :)

I'd suggest SSR or OKW. The condo style layout is the best option to limit noise.

When we first starting our DVC talk, we were leaning toward AKV or WLV, however, we know that lack of sleep tends to make us (me esp) a very unhappy camper. We had not thought of OKW. Now though, with everyone's comments we are seriously considering OKW.

Regarding the name "kid-at-heart", my heart is young but my body has been around more than half a century - and some days the body feels very young and others (esp if I don't get my sleep) it feels very old. :rotfl:

As a light sleeper, I can appreciate what the OP is saying.

I know that it isn't a big deal to some, but not hearing outside noise while in our 'home' is certainly important to me. That said, I have personally found that OKW and SSR seem to be the quietest rooms we've stayed in.

I think that SSR is one of the most quietest resorts at Disney.

We have had one bedrooms and studios there many times. I have always been amazed at how quiet everything is. The bus stops are not right outside your door so that is never an issue either.

have fun no matter what the choice...:)

We love the quietness of SSR! We have 3 children, and we like the peacefulness at SSR after a busy day at the parks. Like a previous poster mentioned - it is like you are the only people at the resort.:lovestruc

I vote for both OKW and SSR. SSR has a bit of an edge as the hot tubs are not near to the units. At OKW (south point) there's a hot tub right close to buildings. If it's occupied late into the night you can hear the conversation. When the patio doors are closed it is muffled but if you have sensitive hearing you'll pick it up.

SSR the hottubs are further away.

I totally agree. During our stay I swear there was no one else in our building. It really is like going "home" after a busy day. :)
