Quietest resort

I have hit that stage in life where, while I still love to go to Disney, once I am back in my room I want it to be quiet. We stayed at AKL a few years ago and it was horrible in regards to room noise. There were children running up and down the hallway until 4 in the a.m. Folks walking to and from their rooms kept talking :) (as they should be allowed to do) but we could hear everything in our room. We finally ended up going to another resort so we could sleep at night. :sad1: I loved the days at AKL but hated the nights. So, two questions before we make our DVC buy; are the rooms in AKL still prone to hall noise and which is the quietest DVC resort – in your opinion?

We've stayed at BWV, SSR, VWL, and OKW, and our experience has been that OKW is the quietest, even quiet when it's a full capacity.

I would have to say the resorts that are set-up like OKW and SSR where there really are no hallways, are going to be the quietest. The sound anyone makes in the hallway has a place to go, other then the walls of your room. Also, there is very limited to the number of people that can go past your unit. I know for SSR, there are maybe 8 - 10 rooms a floor and even that is split from where the elevators are. Where in AKL, BCV and Boardwalk, They are like normal hallways so the noise is going to go towards the room and you have a more people walking by your room.

SSR's rooms are soundproofed. When we were there, we heard NO outside noise when we were in our room, and we were in Congress Park facing DTD. We loved the quiet :lovestruc The resort itself was also relaxing.

While we liked the location of the Epcot resorts, we prefer the atmosphere at SSR. We stayed in a BWV studio for one night last summer, and ended up pool hopping to SSR. The pool at BWV was so crowded. HRS was a little crowded, but the pool at the Grandstand was so quiet and relaxing. DH wanted to know why I didn't book us at SSR!!

SSR is very quiet. In the paddock area if you are near the fire station, you can hear the noise from that. You do not hear noise from other rooms.:goodvibes

I really appreciate your comments. Regarding any resort, are there certain rooms which are quieter than the others. Example: at AKL or WL, are there certain areas where there would be less hall traffic? Yea, I know, I need earplugs - except the plugs bug me so much I still can not sleep - so do the "white noise" machines (keep me awake). As my DH says, "picky, picky - why not just stay home if you cannot sleep with outside noise" - except I love going to Disney - I just want to make my night experiences as wonderful as my day experiences.

the problems you are concerned about seem to have more to do with who are your hotel "neighbors" rather than what resort...

I thought VWL was quiet, but SSR you would swear you're the only person in the building(been twice at Thanksgiving and the rooms are very quiet).

Can't say that for BCV, I could hear another room's shower in the master bedroom.

During our first stay at SSR a couple years ago, we were in the CP section facing DTD. Not only did we not hear anything from DTD, we woke up one morning to look out a maintenance mowing the lawn right under our window! If I hadn't have looked, I would not have know they were there!:ssst:

OKW for overall quiet.

SSR for "room" quiet

Both great resorts...... and no hallways=less noise

I totally agree with this. We heard more noise inside the room at OKW than at SSR, but the lush vegetation shielded OKW from the 'outside' of the resort noise.

Haven't stayed at OKW yet....
but SSR is VERY quiet.....

had a DTD view.....always had music playing....when door was shut....didn't hear anything. Didn't even hear a toilet flush.

Here's an example of hotel neighbors sometimes being key. From my experience, VWL was very loud-we were woken almost every night by neighbors cheering. They were soccer fans and it was during the World Cup, the year the games were at ungodly hours of the night. The next morning we always saw pizza boxes and beer bottles in the hall-party time! By contrast, I've never been awoken at BCV. A couple tips-if staying where there are hallways, always ask for a room far down the hall, less traffic that way. And if you have a lock off, put a rolled up towel along the floor at the adjoining door. Actually, the rolled up towel idea would also help at the main door's floor.

The OP might be interested in reading the Unofficial Guide to WDW. Starting in about the 2007 edition, they reviewed the issue of noise at the resorts and identified the quietest rooms.

One interesting observation was that in WDW hotels with interior hallways, the room doors are designed so that air conditioning can flow into the room from the hallway. Noise from the hallways also flows thru this gap. This is consistent with the observations from other posters that BWV, AKV, BCV and VWL generally experience more noise from neighbors than OKW and SSR.

It may also be that DVC accomodations are more prone to noise because they tend to be occupied by groups. We recently stayed on the top floor where all the suites are located at the PPH at Disneyland. We experienced more hallway noise during this stay than any of our other stays at this hotel.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

I guess we're the odd ones, but we experienced a lot of noise at OKW. In fact, due to my traveling partner's chronic illness, they were kind enough to move us, but still had party people outside our doors at 2 a.m.

Our home is at VWL and we find the Villas to be quite quiet. If we're staying in a studio we always request the dedicated units at the end of the hallway. We were just there at Christmas and had no problems.

When we've had a one or two bedroom at the Villas, we've heard no hallway noise.

I also agree that it's a matter of lucking out with considerate neighbors, too.

Your name just doesn't fit the topic :)

I'd suggest SSR or OKW. The condo style layout is the best option to limit noise.
