Quiet Activities for 13 month old on plane

Post-its (come off easier than stickers generally), colouring (triangular crayons don't roll off the tray easily), pipe cleaners, a couple of cars and books were our go tos at that age. I have a boy and a girl 20 months apart, so that stage seemed to last forever for us. I always brought a favourite cuddly toy, a favourite book and a couple of new ones, a beloved snack and a couple that they rarely got to try. Snacks like cheerios or raisins are good, because they take a while to eat.

Don't discount the simple things. An ice cube in a plastic cup once kept my daughter entertained for ages, and the flight attendant just gave us a new ice cube whenever the one we had melted.

I also learned that most flights have enough background noise that many kids' toys aren't actually very audible even by the closest neighbours. It also definitely beats screaming.

We scheduled our flights for our fifteen month olds last year during nap time. Life saver! They slept through both flights!

We packed a stuffed animal or two for each of them, some crayons and paper, stickers, and we loaded up the phones with some Sesame Street, Thomas, and Disney shows....just in case.

We bought the $1 travel packs from the dollar section at Target. I'm hoping the crayons and stickers will keep my 15 month old busy. But now I'm thinking of the triangle crayons. :goodvibes

OP - thanks for kicking off this thread!

Keep the ideas coming. Our flight will be 5 hrs straight with a 10, 7, 4 to and my 13 month old ( granted there will also be 6 adults, but I'm hoping they can at least entertain themselves).

For the older kids (my daughter is 7). We have some Disney Jelly bellies, a notebook and some colored pens, stickers. And a fully loaded Ipad with new games and new movies :thumbsup2

Older kids will usually take less to entertain, and they can help play with the little ones too! Usually a book or some music (my DD has an ipod touch) will be enough.

I'd much rather hear a little rattling sound than the sound of an unhappy toddler! But that's just me! I hope you have a fun~filled trip!!

I would not like that and I have kids! The constant rattling would drive me crazy!

I did that once and only once and it did not work. My kids did not fall asleep until we were on DME at about 3pm!

As far as older kids, if we are on jet blue-head phones! But they also have various activity books and electronics to keep them content.

Games or favorite movie on the ipad. If she hasn't used the ipad before, get her use to it before your trip. Snacks help alot as well.

Only you know your child and how she will act. My DD at 1 year old would NEVER have put buttons or beads in her mouth but she wasn't very orally fixated- never took a pacifier or sucked her thumb. She loved to string beads and would do it for long periods of time.

On the other hand, my little brother (2 mos older than her) came for an overnight visit at 18 mos and promptly tried to swallow a bead because he was used to taking pills for asthma.

I love the idea of the little pom poms with pipe cleaners. I made a puppet out of a wash cloth with Sharpie drawn on eyes and entertained DS5 who was having a meltdown before Fantasmic! because he refused to nap the whole time we were at WDW.

I also like the magnetic boards and Cracker Barrel has lots of little travel books that my DD always loved.

One thing I wanted to mention is that kids not only like new books and toys, sometimes their familiar favorites provide a lot of comfort. My DS is 8 now and still loves watching the same things over and over again.

My 12 month old son loves to go through my wallet and take out all of the cards. It has been our go to for long car rides and it keeps him entertained! We have started collecting cards that are not important and got him his own wallet now so it doesn't matter if a card gets lost. We've used old hotel room keys, rewards cards from stores, and old/expired credit/debit cards or even sample cards that come in the mail :)

Yesterday I took an empty sour cream container and cut a hole in the top, then filled it with 6-10" pieces of ribbon. My daughter spent 30 minutes pulling all of the ribbons out, playing with them, and helping us put them back in the container. And if it gets lost on our flight this week, I don't have to worry about losing any money.
