Quickest way to get to parks

I have heard that sometimes taking the resort bus to and from the parks is time consuming. The last think I want is to spend 30-45 minutes on a bus. Would it be quicker to take a taxi or other transportation? How much would the taxi run me? I will probably be staying at one of the All Star hotels so am trying to figure out my options before I book my trip.

If you take a taxi you might as well rent a car, it will probably end up being about the same cost as daily cab rides. Chip and Dale express is the one to ask about times to the parks. He drives for Disney and is a font of information.

I do rent a car and there are a couple of things to consider.

One. I NEVER drive to MK. By the time you park, take the tram or walk to the TTC, catch the boat or the monorail to the park it would be quicker to take the bus. A taxi is only going to get you to the TTC so not much time savings for your money. The Disney buses drop you off at the entrance!

Two. If you stay till closing and leave with everyone else the traffic coming out of the parks can be a NIGHTMARE. It is made worse by people who realize that they need to exit right and are in the far left lane. They will then just ZOOM across 4 lanes of traffic. This is NOT an occasional occurance. I see it at least once a day at Disney. Are these folks allergic to going ahead and turning around? If I know I am staying till closing I will often take the bus just to let Tyler deal with these people whose Driver's licenses should be confiscated.

Three. The buses drop you off much closer then the trams at all parks.

Four. And this is a personal preference. I don't like taking taxi's.

Five. The commute is the same distance on a bus. At the All Stars the buses only make one or two stops so.... that really isn't bad, the worse part will be waiting on the bus. It always seems like forever, but I have timed my waits numerous times and I agree with Tyler, the wait is never as long as it seems. (The last time I stayed at OKW I was waiting on the bus when a family showed up. Bus came, we got on and they were VERY upset with the bus driver. Claimed to have been waiting 30 minutes. WHERE? Time in your room does not count! They shut up when I said to the driver that I got to the stop at 3:15 and it was 3:30. They knew I was there when they got there.)

I've heard lots of people say the bus service was bad at WDW, but my experience has been just the opposite. We had no trouble with getting to the parks in a timely manner. The waits for buses was always very short and then they just zipped us to where we wanted to go. Occasionally the buses would stop at other resorts, but even that was quick and we were on our way.

We've also driven and I'll agree with the person who said don't drive to MK. It's quite a process to get to the park entrance when you drive yourself. Otherwise, driving to the other parks is usually quite convenient.

I parked the car in the WL parking lot and that is where it stayed until checkout. Had a couple of glitches that I posted, but for the most part it is a good sevice and the drivers are better trained to deal with the traffic.

If you are thinking taxi, I'd go for a resort with better park access to the parks you really want (the MK resorts or the Epcot area resorts for Epcot and MGM). By the time you pay taxi fare every day, you are well on your way to paying for the nicer rooms and nicer amenities of the Deluxe resorts.

We've also always had acceptible bus service at WDW.
