Quick WDW trip w/3 mo. old- Yes or no? Please help!!

Tracey, I just wanted to share with you a few items that I bought the other day at Babies R'Us for our upcoming trip. I bought a clip-on stroller shade that clips onto the existing shade of the stroller to block more sun. I also bought a rain cover for our stroller. I also ordered the Baby Bjorn that I posted the other day - should arrive on Friday. I'm going to buy a tub that can fold for travel and then I think I'll have everything that I need for Mary Grace's first trip to WDW.

Let me know if you think of any other "to make life easier" kinda things.

I took my ds at 18 months and that wa so hard. California was very hot and he was sick from the son the entire time, crying and throwing up. It was aweful. We decided to drive down last summer when he was 2.5 year old and we had the best trip ever!!
As much as I LOVE LOVE Disney, unless you live very close I'd say wait until baby is a bit older, it will be less stress on you all.

My DH and I took our DD to WDW when she was three months old. We had a great time! I know that she will not remember but we sure will. It was so worth it!

My wife and I were with our son at Disney in June just after he turned 3 months old and it was a wonderful time! Everyone has posted lots of great ideas and all I will add is just make sure to keep the pace slow - the only day we had any issue at all was when we did not go back to the resort (we were at WL) for an afternoon break - that day the little guy exploded on us at dinner time and made it clear he just wanted someplace cool and quiet. As for sunburn - we talked with our doctor and a dermatologist friend and they suggested sunscreen (I don't remember the brand off hand but drop me a note if you would like me to ask my wife) and that worked great. So have a great trip ! :earsboy:

One other thing I just remembered - find the location of the Baby Care center in each park - we used them at the MK and Epcot and they were wonderful !

I just received the Baby Bjorn I ordered:
029010US.jpg

It is made of several layers of durable mesh. It is made just like the original but does seem like it would breathe and be much cooler. It's gray & white just like the pic so I'm sure that would also help with keeping Mary Grace & myself cooler. She seems to like it because she's sleeping in it as I type. :sunny:

If you had other children, I'd say to wait, because if it all went to HE-you-know-what you'd be ruining your other kids' trip as well. But if it's just you, DH, and baby, go! Yes, maybe he'll be up all night, maybe you'll have to hold a crying baby all day, maybe you'll never enjoy a single free dining experience, BUT, maybe everything will go great! I don't think 3 days is enough time to ruin his schedule, and if you take a carrier and stroller and everything else, and just cruise calmly through the parks, you could have a great time. It'll just be a different trip than your usual Disney exerience.

My only disclaimer: if you or your DH tend to stress about all the money you spent if things don't go as planned (i.e., why are we spending $$ for a hotel room we stay up in all night with a screaming baby, lol), I'd wait. My Dh tends to do this. If you both are ready to just go with the flow, you'll be fine! Enjoy!

Kristi- duh!! I responded to you but I did it on the new mom's thread! My brain is not working today....

I REALLY like that carrier- I may have to bite the bullet and get it. I was going to pick up a mesh cover for the stroller to keep the bugs away at night as we are staying at POR and want to go on the boat ride to DTD and I am going to pick up an inflatable tub. I am having visions of our stroller getting hijacked at WDW so I am thinking of maybe getting a smaller one. Christopher is not always happy in his carseat so I may just put him in the stroller itself and leave the seat in the car. One of my friends just let me borrow her travel swing. He loves the regulat swing and can fall asleep in about 3 minutes so I am thinking of taking the travel swing just in case of meltdowns in the room. It folds pretty flat. Of course I don't know where we will stow all of our stuff but as long as we have all of Christopher's than we will be set!

Who cares if Mommy can only pack an extra shirt and underwear in the wipes box because the car is stuffed? :)

Tracey, I had considered buying a travel swing. I had also considered taking our full size swing. It's the kind that swings forward & back or sideways. Mary Grace really likes swing sideways. We are flying though and I'm afraid it would get messed up, besides DH said "no".

I looked into buying the travel swing but can't justify the money for 1 trip. I wish I knew someone that had one I could borrow. DH had said we could break down her bouncy seat and take that but she doesn't love that like she loves her swing.

I need to get a mosquito net as well. I didn't think about that when I w as there. I wonder if they have them @ BabyDepot?

I was going to buy one of the blow up tubs but I have the blue one that folds up. I'll just have to make room for that in the suitcase. I'm planning on packing light for the rest of us since we're staying @ Boardwalk villas, I'll have a washer & dryer. I'll have to pack light, clothes wise, to make room for all of the baby stuff. :teeth:

Mary Grace has her 2 month check up tomorrow :guilty: . I'm not looking forward to all those shots. I'm going to ask the Dr. about sunscreen. I had heard or read that under 6 monthes, too much of it is absorbed into their skin. I don't know though so I'll ask tomorrow. I do have a hat for her to block her head, neck & face from the sun and I will probably drape a blanket to cover her legs.

Ooooh- good luck with the shots tomorrow! I know it will hurt you more than it hurts her. Christopher goes for his on Sept 7th. I wouldn't have bought the travel swing-I'm just glad I was able to borrow one. He doesn't like it as much but I am putting him in it every once in a while to get him used to it. I read about the sunblock too, that is why I am curious to see what kind people use. I have a sunhat for him and lightweight blankets to cover him. At least there are plenty of shops to stroll him into for a few minutes and we won't be in the parks at the middle of the day.

Ooops- I hear him- gotta go! Let me know how it goes tomorrow! :grouphug:

We used mostly Coppertone Baby Spectra 3 at that age (it's in a pink bottle). Her dr said any baby sunblock was fine. We tested it on her arm about a week or 2 before the trip and she was fine. We also used Water Babies, Baby Blanket, and Mustela and used them all at least once and they were fine too, I just preferred the Spectra 3 cause it didn't feel as thick and greasy as the others. The greasiest was the Water Babies stick, ugh, it was like applying Vaseline to her face.

I just went for Mary Grace's 2 month check up & asked the Dr. about sunscreen. He gave me some samples of a sunscreen called "Blue Lizard". He said he thinks it's available @ Walgreens, so I would assume most major drugstores would have it as well.

My daughter went at three months, 4 1/2 months and will be going again this weekend at 8 months. I'm so excited. I have to say, that three months was the hardest, she was teething and my parents didn't know *I didn't get to be there for her first trip, I was so bummed!*

4 1/2 months, she was a delight. Maybe it was b/c I was with her this time, maybe she really liked it ... who knows. She actually cut her bottom two teeth at Disney, and was a superb baby. Everywhere we went, people asked how old she was, and they were amazed she was only 4 1/2 months old. She had such a happy time.

She rode rides both times. She really enjoyed all of them. My sister *who's seven* scared her on Pirates. My mom got kind of nervous during Peter Pan b/c of the way the bar slammed shut rather quickly.

We actually bought a really cheap umbrella stroller from Target. It was like $25, but it's so much easier to have a light stroller than to lug our heavy one on and off the trams and such. We never used her infant car seat, just let the stroller recline so she could see everything *she was much happier this way*.

I had a snugli for our first couple of trips, but this time around I am going to bring a sling, so she has an option whether to ride or to be carried. The snugli KILLED my back, and my daughter was in the 30th percentile for weight back then.

This time I'm slightly worried b/c she's so intent on crawling/cruising the furniture. But, I know she is going to enjoy it so so so much. This time, we're riding the carousel and Dumbo for the first time, we just did day trips before, this weekend we are staying for three days.

Enjoy your trip. I don't honestly believe that Julie remembers Disney, but Momma sure does. And I know Julie will enjoy looking through her scrapbook as she gets older.

I know that there have been threads on this topic but I am having visions of our stroller not being where we left it at the parks. I'm considering getting one of those $40 Combi strollers just in case. I decided not to put the baby in the carseat that goes with the stroller because he gets so hot and just strap him in the seat with it laying down. We will probably take the car to/from the parks so I don't have to worry much about it on the buses. Should I just take the big one with all the bells and whistles or get a smaller one? Should I even be worrying about our stroller getting stolen or misplaced?

I would not worry about it getting stolen, we've never had any problems. I guess it could happen but I think most people are all there for the same reason to have a good time, not to rip someone off. I don't think someone would spend the money for a ticket just to steal someone's stroller. We will be taking our full size Graco. I wouldn't worry too much about it. ...Now, just watch, my stroller will probably get stolen while I'm there  .

I can't believe hubby hasn't shot this idea down in the first minute I brought it up of taking a quick trip to WDW with our son before I go back to work in October. I'd like to go towards the end of September- he will be almost 3 months old then. I have been going through the threads for ideas and so far I have gotten some good tips. I think we will be driving down so we will have the carseat and full size stroller plus the carrier, I am nursing him now but will be starting to supplement during the daytime feedings by then (as much as I want to, it will be difficult to pump when I go back to work) and since we have both been to Disney alot, we don't need to do the parks commando style. I just don't know if we should go or not!

Pros- Free dining plan will save us a ton of $$ as we LOVE to eat!
Baby sleeps alot during the day
Can't wait to take him to Disney even though he won't remember it!
Parks not crowded that time of year
$$ saved b/c of driving down to WDW
We love WDW and I need a vacation!

Cons- Not sure if he will be sleeping through the night yet
Too hot to be in carseat/stroller?
Driving instead of flying- 17 hour trip
Can't do parks like we used to (this is ok though)
All that driving for 3 nights?
What if he is up all night screaming and wakes other guests up?

I'll definitely talk to his pediatrician beforehand (he will have his shots in 2 more weeks) and see what she says. I see that many people have brought their babies to WDW without any problems. Please let me know what you would do in my situation. Thanks so much!

We just got back from Disney 2 weeks ago, I had my 3 month old DD princess: & 3 year old DD princess: . We had a GREAT time. I was so nervous with the baby being there in the heat (they were having record heat down there). I talked to the ped & he said there was no reason why she shouldn't go. So we went. I had most of the same concerns as you.
I had a clip on fan on her stroller & also purchased a "ray shade" from Babiesrus, so she was cool and out of the sun totally! The Ray Shade was the best purchase I made it keeps the sun out be still allows air to circulate throughout the stroller. We flew down & I didn't have the infant seat with us. I thought she would get too hot at the parks in it, so we had her in our full size stroller which reclines all the way and it worked out great!
I also had our Baby Bjorn carrier with us so any ride we went on she was attached to me
I really just had such a great time and everything really worked out for us with our 2 DD.
Its up to you what you do, but I wouldn't change our time in Disney at all!
Of course you little one won't remember, but just the whole Disney experience is wonderful. Plus you'll have great pictures of his first WDW trip. The character LOVE the little ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :flower: :flower: :flower: :flower:

I didn't buy the stroller for any reason other than convience. I can carry the umbrella stroller from Target, Juliette and all the crud we buy during the day unto a bus during the crowd. That says a lot in my book.

Sure, my Graco stroller has more "bells and whistles" but she's still young enough that she doesn't notice. Only Momma notices that the basket is slightly smaller, that the seat doesn't lay totally flat and that she doesn't have a cup holder up front. Serisouly, not too shabby for $25.

I've also never had a problem with anything being stolen at Disney. We've been going mulitple times a year since I was a small child, and never once lost a stroller. Not to mention all the other Florida amusement parks, never a problem. I guess I'm kinda neive, but who would go to the "happiest place on Earth" to rip off a stroller.

Jackson4, I'm glad that you all had such a good time. That's reassuring for me since we'll be leaving 9/24 with DS8, DD5 & DD3 monthes. I do have 2 questions: Where did you buy the clip on fan? Are they available @ Target, Walmart or Kmart? Also, you said that you flew down? Did it bother either of your DD's ears? We haven't flown since our DS was 2 and he had tubes at the time so he wasn't bothered by the pressure. I plan on buying some gum for DS & DD to chew on and BF DD3 monthes during take off and landing. I was just wondering what you did, if anything, for both of your children.

We bought a clip on fan at Babies R Us. We ended up not using it much though since it didn't seem to help that much. She stayed in the Bjorn more and was cooler in that than her stroller.

Madison has flown on about 10 roundtrip flights so far and she has never complained about ear pain (I mean that she never cried on takeoff or landing). In the beginning I pumped a bottle so I could feed her and keep her in her carseat on takeoff and landing. Well, she wasn't really hungry cause the flights just didn't coincide with her mealtime so she ended up nursing before we boarded and then again during the middle of the flight. She sucked a little, but not much, but didn't fuss at all so I figured she was fine. Then around 6 months or so she just would not wake up for landing, despite me shoving the bottle in her mouth. I had heard never to let them sleep during landing, but I couldn't wake her up no matter what I did. She was fine again. As she got older she wouldn't really take bottles anymore so we brought cups, but she was really into drinking anything when we wanted her to. Now we dont' really give her anything in particular and she's completely fine. She might just not be that sensitive to ear pain or whatever, but we've never had a problem.

I was just going to ask where to find the clip on fan. It may be a good thing to have and we can use it too! I'm excited to go!

Justhat- how is your family doing? I think you said you had inlaws in Metarie? I was thinking about you last night while I was glued to CNN as I have been for 3 days now. Have you heard from them? I hope they are ok.

I kind of feel guilty for being so excited about our trip when there is so much devastation going on. I really can't imagine what those poor people are going through. :grouphug:

Do you know why they're not supposed to sleep during landing?? I've never heard that but I've never had a reason to since I've never travelled with a baby.
