Quick Service Rules in Effect:

1) The "no saving tables" rule is in effect.
2) You may not get a table without your food-in-hand.
3) Thus, one guest can't get a table while others stand in the food line.
4) There is a CM that will show your whole party to the table.5) Once you have your food.

NOTE: The rule includes people who have kids in strollers and want to get a table before they get their food. In fact, in a lot of QS eateries, strollers are now not allowed due to the adding of extra tables cutting available aisle space. THIS IS A GOOD RULE, as it has shown to cut down people waiting for tables when others have hogged them while not eating.

I really don't have a real problem with these rules, though I can see people's point who have members in their party in wheel chairs or strollers. As for the 4th rule, If a cm wants to escort my party to a table that is fine, but if several seats are available, and as long as it's a cs, I will sit where I darn well please. ;)

I saw this in action at Cosmic Ray's last year and seemed to work very efficiently...I did not see anyone with food waiting for a table (or wandering around looking either.) The CMs did a very good job of steering people to empty tables very quickly.

And yes, they do make exceptions for folks in wheelchairs (I saw that one myself.) Lady in a wheelchair was seated at a table while her partner went for food.

They did not make exceptions for kids in strollers, babies being carried, etc. I heard the CM suggest the husband call the wife on the cell phone when food & table was ready. Which actually sounded like a good plan to me...the wife & kids waited outside where the kids could burn off some steam. Seriously, how would that be any different than waiting to be seated at a table service restaurant. People do that all the time and make-do with keeping the kids occupied while they wait--outside the restaurant, usually.

On the other hand, when we were there in November, a couple of weeks ago, they were not doing this and the place was an absolute mad house with people wandering-wandering-wandering looking for empty tables. And people were saving tables long before they had any food...I saw a couple of women grab a table for 2 and then they pulled 8 additonal chairs up (leaving several tables for 4 with only 2 chairs...the other two being occupied by people already using that table for 4.) That was the silliest thing I saw...like how are they possibly going to fit 10 people's food on a table sized for 2?

Hhhmmm I don't know if I like this idea. I hate when my kids crowd around me when I'm carrying a tray full of food and drinks. I'm always afraid they are going to bump into me! It's like a balancing act! I like them to go get seated and I bring the stuff to them. We will have a 2 year old with us in August. I had thought my 13 year old could sit with her and give her a snack while I was in line. ugh.

When I initially heard about this, I hated the sound of it. But after experiencing it I understand the point and applaud Disney for it. Makes for a much less frustrating experience when I have a tray in my hand and can't find a table.

We used it during spring break last March and it does work. Here's how it went.
1. Lined up for food
2. Got food on 2 trays(hubby 1 Me 1)
3.Went to CM
4.Shown to table
5.Emptied Trays
6.Took empty tray to codiment bar(told CM what I was doing on the way)
7.Went back, ate food, moved out, NEXT!!!!!

:rotfl:

That sounds like a good solution. I'm sure that someone will say how it won't work for them, but my guess it would work for the majority of families with children.

Looks like a good plan to me.

I'm not sure this is cause for civil disobedience, but if that's your "cup of tea", go for it. I'll enjoy the show while I eat. popcorn::

The new rules sound great to me. In recent years I've traveled with either my cousin or my bff and her young daughter; we never had someone to go hold a table for us, so we always ended up wandering around balancing trays amid a sea of tables that were either held by someone waiting or were full of people just resting. It didn't seem fair, but there wasn't much to be done about it ~ I've even read posts from people on these boards suggesting we should have gotten ADRs somewhere if we didn't have a person to secure a table for us. So I should have to go to a table service establishment just to sit and eat? :confused3

With the rules currently in place, everyone coming thru the counter service lines with food will be able to eat at a table ~ what's not to love? I hope Disney stands by the current policy.

Just my .02 :hippie:

By "civil" I meant polite/non-hostile. If people don't calmly and rationally explain why they don't like certain policies, businesses get no feedback and have no incentive to make changes.

I wasn't planning on chaining myself to a chair in protest! :rotfl2:

I wasn't planning on chaining myself to a chair in protest!.

That would be seriously funny!...Not to mention providing at least a few days of entertainment for us here on the boards. :lmao:

What do they do during inclement weather? Will they shove out those who are finished eating into the rain, to open up tables?

I like this policy, because it means I will never have to eat over a trash can again.

If it's run efficiently, I think it is a wonderful idea, but as a mom of two young children, I can also see the downside. Having the kids with you in line can be..... :crazy2:

What do we want?
TABLES!
When do we want them?
BEFORE WE ORDER!

2! 4! 6! 8!
I got a seat, and then I ate!

Coming soon to a CS near you! ;)

LOL! That's cute!

Much better than the current policy - where if someone wants a guaranteed table before they order food they go to a table service restaurant? :lmao:

As a frequent solo visitor I love this. I don't even bother to try eat at Cosmic Rays or Pecos Bills anymore, because I could never find a table. Everyone was always saving them while a member of their party was waiting in line to order. I could be through eating and out of there before their family member showed up with their food. Also if I was ever lucky enough to find a table, some family would ask me to give it up since I was solo and they needed that table. Back before Tusker House changed to a TS, I actually had a lady yell at me and threaten to get a manager because I was sitting by myself at the only table available (a four seater) and wouldn't give it up for her family. She said that since I was solo, I could just take my food outside and eat it. I offered to share the table with them, but she still demanded that I give it up. An elderly couple was walking by about that time looking for a table, so I offered to share my table with them. They took me up on it, I had a very nice meal, met a couple of new friends from New York, and the rude lady stalked off muttering about how rude I was to not give up my table and how WDW was for families and I shouldn't even be there.

I am constantly amazed at the rudeness of others:confused: - although perhaps by now I shouldn't be:sad2: So sorry to hear that happened to you:flower3: - that would have really upset me.:sad1:

We are going in January- value season. Will this be in effect then, or is it just for busy seasons?

That's what I was wondering. Also, it seems unnecessay at slow times of the day. As I said in another post we often eat at 10:30 because the restaurants are so quiet.

all i can say is that i hope that it doesnt get too crowded in the ORDERING area. My kids are older now, so it's not a big deal to ask them to politely wait for a seat, but EVERY one bringing EVERY member of their family into that ordering area seems a little problematic.
