I'm preparing to send out my first resume and need some advice on wording my cover letter. How's this?

I write to you today with regards to the posted position of xxxxxxxxxxx, listed on your company's website. You'll notice in my attached resume that I have a xxxxxx background in a xxxxx environment, making me a suitable candidate to be considered.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Do I need to add anything else, or is it okay the way it is. I don't want to be word-y, but I don't want to sound too blunt.

Perosnally - I think you need to really sell yourself in the cover letter, so in my opinion, your letter is too short.

Thanks. I really thought so too....all new to me. I've been with the same employer for sixteen years.

Actually I think you could be a little stronger in saying it makes you an excellent candidate, and you believe you would be an asset to the company.
you could change the phrase "you'll notice" to "please note". I think you change tenses a couple times.....I would re-work your opening to be in active voice "I am responding to......"

Thanks for the advice. I was trying to do it in a hurry because I was trying to complete an online form (which was not working, so I was going to send it in an email), and it obviously is coming off as so. I'm going to go the old-fashioned route and send it postal mail, as requested, once I rework the cover letter.

How's this coming along....

I am responding to the posted job opening for xxxxxxxxxx , listed on your company's website. Please note in my attached resume, I have a xxxxxxxx background in a xxxxxx environment which makes me an excellent candidate for your xxxxxxxxx position. I have been in a similar work environment for over 15 years, but the current economic climate has made it necessary for me to begin looking elsewhere to preserve my full-time employment status.

I have long held your company in high regard as a stable employer in the area and as a strong presence in the community. It would be a privilege to be employed with you.

Thank you for your consideration.

Do I need more, or should I let my resume do the talking?

Should I mention the current economic climate, as it relates to the status/situation of my present employer?

last post for the evening.

I'm using a different computer in the house, and was able to send off the online information request, which doesn't require the cover letter, but it allowed me to attach my resume.

Should I send a hard copy through the mail as well, along with a cover letter?

Personally I don't like the "current economic climate" stuff. Instead, I would add a description of your qualities and skills that make you suitable for the job. Also discuss why you would be a good fit for that comapany in particular, and why you want to work for them. If there are certain areas on your resume that you want to stand out for this position, highlight those as well as any specific and relevant training or certifications you hold.
