Quick question re: monorail travel to off-site hotels

If I am on an "off day" and don't plan on visiting the parks, I can go and park our vehicle and hop a monorail? to the hotels? Yes? or no way. It would be $7 to park the car, and is there a fee for the monorail? I suspect I cannot do that, but might as well just go to the particular hotel of interest, park and visit/eat or whatever, right? I want to try the Tonga Toast at the Polynesian Resort one morning. And maybe some meal at the Contemporary? Calif. Grill?
Okay, thanks for all your tips. All are so much appreciated. First time visit to the Orlando Parks, woo hoo. Cannot wait (June 19, my dang clock does not work, Okay, It is ME that cannot make the thing work. ha ha)

I don't see why not. You can also park at the hotel you have the meal reservation for. They will give you a three hour pass.

Yes you can. There is no charge for the monorail and you can ride the resort loop, out to MK, or out to Epcot. It is one of our kids favorite attractions. The hotels are fun to check out. The Grand Floridian lobby is really nice. Ask to ride up front with the engineer for a nice view.

As mentioned, you can park at a hotel and not have to pay parking if you have a reservation.

Per the "rules" that I've seen, all Disney transportation is available to anyone who either: is in possession of a park hopper ticket (but you don't have to be using it that day from what I can tell) OR is staying in a Disney hotel. So, if you have a park hopper and you are taking a day off to resort hop, you can use all disney transportation as much as you want. You can even take the scenic ride over to Epcot and back without going in. In theory, this is not included in a one-day, one-park ticket, but I've never seen anyone check to see whether you meet these criteria.

Definately you can park at the TTC. Hop the monorail to the MK direct or Resort loop. They follow the same path, the resort one just stops at each of the 3 resorts as well as the TTC. Be sure to bring tickets, because I've always been asked to show it before boarding the monorail queue. (That may not be the norm, but I get asked ) You won't have to use them, just show them. You could also take the EPCOT run which is much longer than going to the MK. If you park at a resort, you will need to transfer at the TTC to get to EPCOT. Hope this helps!

Anyway, not even in theory does that work. You HAVE to take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. Even with a 1-day/1-park ticket, you've got no way to the Magic Kingdom without the monorail!!!!

Not true, I usually take the ferry, [to the magic kingdom, much more pleasant] also of course there are the busses but of course they are also part of the transportation system. if you have any ticket for the park though you can use the Transportation system.

True, true! That'll teach me to contemplate Disney transportation theory instead of doing the dishes!!!

...they only post a CM at the TTC gate in the morning.

We were staying at the Poly last week and decided to take the ferry over to the MK. We walked over from the Poly. The CM checking for tickets at the gate kind of suprised me since nobody was checking the evening before when we boarded the monorail to go to EPCOT. I had both room cards and park tickets, but did not feel like digging them out of the bottom of my camera bag. I told the CM that we were guests of the Poly and she just waved us thru. (as there was only one CM attempting to check the mass of people coming thru the gate - she seemed bit overworked!)

They want you to purchase your park tickets at the TTC rather than at the MK front gate.

We have parked at a monorail hotel and ridden the monorail to tour the other hotels(usually look at the restaurants, pool area, do a little shopping) on the line numerous times. I have never had anyone ask me for a ticket or anything else.

Nope, they won't ask for a pass if you are riding from a resort. Only at the TTC as you are heading for the ramp to the monorail, just for future reference
