Quick question on banking/borrowinG

My dw and I are itching to buy DVC. We've found a resale that has a few points coming in Feb 2013, but 150 coming in Feb 2014. We've been planning a trip for march 2013 already which lead to us looking at DVC again. Would we be able to use our 2014 points to go in march of 2013?

Yes, you would borrow them from 2014 to 2013.

for your home resort, you can call 11 months in advance. so you could have called as early as april 2012 to book mar 2013 with banked pts from feb 2012 (if you had any) + current feb 2013 pts ("current" = based on the date of stay being between feb 1, 2013 through jan 31, 2014) + borrowed feb 2014 pts (if needed).

You could certainly use your points. However keep in mind that you may not be able to get some of the rooms already, especially if you are talking about the very end of March as that is Easter. It depends on the resort and room you were thinking of.

I'd pass on that contract unless the price is very, very, very low - so low that it probably wouldn't pass Disney's ROFR.

Think about it: You would get ZERO points for the current use year (2012), and only a few for 2013 and have to wait until 2014 to get a full complement.

There has to be better contracts out there for you. Good luck!

yep - i assume you know that you'll be on the hook for the full amount of 2013 maintenance fees even if you don't get all of your 2013 pts...

Yep, the bill would come at the end of December 2012 for those 2013 dues and you wouldn't have many points to show for those dues.

Thanks for all the advice, good to know about the fees, that's definitely a drawback / negotiating point.
