I too would book before going - we will be this year 
Although, we were very lucky last year. We asked on the day if there were any bookings for the evening and told it was full (think it was about 12:00ish) but at about 7pm we were passing again and my DH popped in on the off chance to ask and we did get a table.
I love it in there when the parade is on, but you're not guaranteed a Main St view - but it's the best food in the park, so still worth going
