quick packing question....

can I pack an external hard drive in my luggage or is it not safe to do so? I wanted to bring it on the plane home this Christmas to share the photos of our trip with our family that we haven't seen in a few years. Should I just mail it instead?

I'm not an expert but I would pack it in your carry on and not your checkin luggage. I don't think it can go through check-in because the hard drive may get damaged but in your carry on bag it should be fine??

You could always call your airline and ask if you don't get a more confident answer but I'm frowning just thinking of you having to wait on hold, talk to someone who then transfers you to someone who then disconnects you on accident . . .

I agree. I think you should put it in your carry on. That way you can pull it out and hand it to tsecurity so nothing happens to it.

The way they throw your luggage around, I would not put it in checked luggage.

But I would def carry it on...and make sure it doesnt go through the xray thing!

It's not at all a problem for a hard drive to go through an xray machine. I mean, every laptop has one and they all go through with no problems at all.

I am thinking that I might just leave it at home. I'm travelling by myself with my three kids. I have a diaper bag, a carryon, a carseat, and a 2 year old to worry about, too.
I really wanted to show pictures of AKL and the villas to my inlaws. They might be coming with us next trip and I wanted them to see where we'd be staying. hee hee hee But, I don't have much room in said bags, so I may just leave it here where I know it will be safe.
