I had full intention of creating a countdown calendar for DS5 and realized today is 31 days! :scared1: but :cool1: at the same time! Any ideas for something that I can create by tomorrow evening latest? I am pretty crafty and have lots of supplies on hand (cardstock, etc.) I originally thought I would do 30 little boxes (like a favour box) and either put a small treat or a note of where to find the treat. Treats may or may not be related to the trip. Let's face it, 30 Disney gifts would buy us another trip! So it would have a lot of chocolates, etc. just for fun. LOVES his advent calendars! Don't think I can get out to get boxes at this point though. I found an old cork board that I can use as a base, but I may have to forgo the boxes and just tack notes of where to find the gift in the house. Any other ideas? Also any ideas for inexpensive gifts would be great! TIA

ok this may sound silly but we uses a good old fashioned paper chain. take a link off every day. my kids rolled their eyes whenwe went to wdw the first time with them. they were 14 and 20 at the time. Hubby thought I was silly but let me tell ya they all started havin fun with it. so we do it every time we go now. (been a while but we are hoping to make a new one soon. I even ae one for a stuent of mine a few years ago. He is an actor and landed a roll on a disney channel show. he was so excited so I made him a countdown chain until his last day of school and first day of shooting. Even though he was in 8th grade he thought it was pretty cool. told me a year later how he thought is was pretty awesome that i had done that for him
So I would say that they are fn to make and you can do it together too

Yep, I go with the paper chain too. Maybe writing (Printing?) messages or trivia on each day.

I do this for myself and Sis, we are 41 and 37!!! :dance3:

My kids cut out pics of their favorite characters and we covered them up with mickey heads with the countdown number written on them. Everyday we took off a Mickey head and got to see another character, very easy and they were really excited to arrange the characters on the board and then try to guess which one was coming up next.

Hi Hon
I made one (well actually a gazillion links) then lost the file due to a computer meltdown,,someone posted recently that she had saved the file and posted it to her photobucket

They are just links that you print off and make a countdown chain.

Here is an example of one
you just print-cut-roll-glue or staple to make a chain.

Thank you so much! A chain it is! DS and I will be working on it tomorrow as we will be at 30 days. :artist:

wgeo - LOVE your board! I think I have left it a little too late to find pics and do a lovely board as you did, but I will definitely keep it in mind for next time. :thumbsup2

When my daughter was younger, we did the paper chain thing as well. I think it works best with younger kids because they can see the chain getting shorter, and that is easier for them to relate to than just crossing off dates on a calendar.

When we did it, I just cut strips of paper in different colors, then gave my daughter a variety of Disney stickers to decorate each strip with - I had her put one character on each strip. She enjoyed helping to build the chain that way AND then destroying the work day by day :rotfl: We would also talk about the character that was on the strip-of-the-day each time we tore one off, maybe watch a movie or read a book that had that character, etc. It helped make the whole wait fun!
