Quick help! Meatballs in crockpot appetizer question!

One time I accidently bought cocktail sauce instead of chili sauce (the jars look exactly the same!) I used it anyway, and they still tasted fine.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Since the constant in all these recipes seems to be the grape jelly, I guess we can assume that the grape jelly is the overpowering flavor in these sauces!!

What else could we mix with grape jelly? Dish soap? Motor Oil? Just wonderin'..

Ok, I used a big jar of grape jelly and an 8 oz jar of sweet chili sauce (from an asian market) and WOW they have a kick!

I use ketchup instead of chili sauce, my girlfriend uses chili sauce, they taste pretty much the same. I use equal parts, I empty the jelly jar then squeeze the ketchup into that, she uses 2 jars of chili sauce to 1 jar of jelly.

I use ketchup too. DH just raves about it. And you can buy the "off" brand of ketchup, which is a little cheaper, because you can't tell the difference.

I know I'm too late for this time but I do it with 1 large jar of grape jelly and 2 bottles of Heinz 57 sauce. KILLER success. Just be very careful of the H57. It stains like you would NOT believe.

Do you make homeade meatballs...or store bought ones? If store bought ones what kinds? Thanks

I use frozen. I think the brand is Armour....funny I am very visual; if they ever change the package, I'm screwed. :rotfl: I get the "original" kind which is caramel coated as opposed to the "Italian" kind.

No, interestingly you do not taste a strong grape flavor. These things are so good its ridiculous. And the longer they sit, the better. I heat my jelly and H57 together, pour over the meatballs and let them go all day. And yes, they are good for days and days. I use the frozen bag of meatballs from Sam's and the family always begs me to do two bags worth so we have plenty of leftovers.

I use:
1 can whole cranberry sauce
1 can tomato soup
1/4 cup Chambord ( plus a tad for the cook)
1 T Dijon mustard

Enjoy:thumbsup2

Sounds EXACTLY like my house! My family and friends go crazy over these things and I have to make enough for everyone to take some home. Sam's clubs big bags are a life saver for me.
