Quick ESTA help required!

My parents have just been offered a trip to LA on Wednesday (how lucky are they, I'm not at all jealous) - I mentioned the ESTA programme to them, and they are all in a panic! If they fill in the application form online, is it granted instantaneously? Is there anything they need to know? (They have to book somewhere for their first night, but plan on travelling around a bit). Thanks guys, I know someone will have all the answers!

Yes its instant. I did it last week, all 3 of us only took 10 mins and all accepted no problem.

You must be faster at typing than me...I did have 8 to do, but it went on forever...I know flight numbers, DOB's, passport numbers for everyone now.

I opened the emails with flight details and hotel booking so copied and pasted most of info, 2-3 mins each form, a lot quicker than I expected.
