Quick DME question

For some reason my search is not answering my exact question. So we fly into MCO Friday and are staying the night at a airport hotel then taking the DME next day into Disney to begin our AKL stay. My DME booklet also has us arriving on Saturday. What happens if I put in the DME tags on my luggage? Do they go to the resort and I get it the next day or will it cause confusion and I risk losing my luggage? I just do not want to lug another suitcase at both airports? I just want to attach the tags to one suitcase and one stroller.

Has anyone done this before?

Nope, your bags will be scanned, and it will show that you aren't due until the next day...so they will sit there, and perhaps get taken the following day. Or, perhaps lost in the shuffle!!
You are entitled to ride the bus, and have your luggage taken care of when you are booked at a WDW owned resort. So, you can't avail yourself of any of the DME system until Sat!!! This means taking your bags with you, Friday, and then back again on Sat. The bags will go beneath your bus, and handed to you when you arrive at AKL.
Sorry, I know that's not the answer you were hoping for, but it is what it is.

No I was kind of aware that maybe the case. I rather know the risk. Thanks for your answer. Helps me decide.

It is my belief that, although the bags will be scanned immediately, they will be immediately taken to the resort indicated by the yellow tag scan, and sit THERE, until you check in and the destination (room) is finalized.

Getting lost in the shuffle is not ruled out. Magical Express bags have been reported to be lined up along walkways at resorts for hours. Also if you modified your reservation to be at a different resort but did not get new yellow tags in time, the bags could sit at the wrong resort for some period of time.

The rules of DME are...you are entitled to a ride on the bus, and baggage handling, during your resort stay. So, with that in mind, your belief is probably incorrect. The 'resort stay' isn't active until the next day...so bags shouldn't be taken to a resort.
I would be more than irritated to find that those with resort reservations, but not until the day after their arrival at MCO, are able to get their bags sent on to the resort, prior to their reservation being active.

Here is the kicker.

If one of the bags never got to Orlando and your check in day is the next day, Magical Express would never know the bag was missing until said next morning when you arrive at the welcoming area from the airport hotel where you spent the night. It will be too late for DME to file a claim with your airline, although DME will try.

The end result is that Disney won't pay you for or compensate you for the contents (electric shaver? lanyard and pins? DVDs? wedding accessories?) of a bag that was lost forever by the airline.

Ergo you should not use the yellow tags if you are flying in a day or so early.
