I am being a good son, and taking my mother and brother on vacation to WDW this december. I was thinking about renting points, but really am confused a bit. I am assuming I should post in the DVD Rent/Trade, but what are my chances of getting what I want. Mainly the only thing I want to get is 3 seperate sleeping places, and for it to be December 1-5. What are my chances of getting that? Also how does it really work, I am assuming they make the reservation for me, but how do I know how many points I will need, or will the actually person making the reservation just tell me a price. Also do they book the dining plan or do I. Also for ADR's who makes those? Finally when do I pay the person, up front or sort of liek how disney does it. Any help would be great, sorry about all the questions...

Early December is an extremely popular time fr DVC owners to use their points and visit WDW. You may not be able to get those dates, or the type of accomodations you want. Also, what do you mean by three seperate sleeping places? If you mean 3 beds, the smallest unit you could get would be a two bedroom, or two studios. DVC does not provide roll-away beds. Your other alternative would be a one bedroom unit, but ou would have to provide an air mattress or cot and the appropriate lines. Unless you are willing to share a bed with your brother, in which case a studio or one bedroom unit would work out OK.

Look at the top of this page, you will see a link to DVC point charts. Points vary depending upon room size and resort.

You will make your own ADRs. The dining Plan can be booked by the owner when they make the ressie.

The price is negotiable between you and the DVC owner, it is a contract between you and the owner, Disney will not become involved. There is a fair amount of trust required on both sides of the contract. Due dates for payment and/or deposits should be clearly understood by both parties, along with any cancellation policy. It is just like renting someones home for your trip, it is between you and the owner, assuming a room is available.

Most owners policy on cancellation is that you lose all monies paid in, no refunds, but again, that is negiotable and should be clearly understood by contract.

Also go to the rent/trade board here and read all the FAQ's and sticky posts for more information.

There have been waitlists for that week for quite some time - IMHO, it is very unlikely that you will be able to rent points for those days.

It's worth a try - someone may have a confirmed reservation that they cannot use.

Since you want 3 separate sleeping spaces, you'll need a 2 bedroom unit or 3 studios. If you can get by with separate beds, you could do 2 studios at OKW (2 queen beds in the studios). If one of you didn't mind a sleep sofa, you could do 2 studios at any DVC resort.

My advice is to book the usual way at a non-DVC resort - I really think it is too late to rent points for early December. Most owners will not want to tie up their points using a waitlist for a renter as there are just too many other opportunities to rent and get their money without that extra wait. If you post a request on the Rent/Trade Board and don't get many responses, that will be the reason.

Nice thing you are doing for your mother and brother. Hope it all works out for you.

Best wishes -
