Questions on waitlist for points

Probably a stupid question, but was just wondering.....
If you waitlist with Disney for points at a sold out resort, are current members (adding points) and nonmembers (first purchase) on the same list? In other words, are they both waitlisted equally - or are current members given some kind of priority???

That's a good question, and I'd like to know the answer as well. I'd take it one step further and wonder this: I'm a VB member, but I want to add on at HHI, so am I treated the same as a brand new non-DVC memeber. I would think so. I'm not sure why a DVC member should get better treatment.

My guide had told me everyone is treated equal on the waitlist..DVC member or no. She said DVC members might not like that fact but its true.

I thought the only resort that a non-member could purchase at was SSR, a non-sold-out resort. I understood that the points that are ROFR'd by Disney at sold-out resorts are only available for add-ons by DVC members. In other words, if I want to buy a new contract at, for example, HHI direct from Disney, I can't, it's sold out. (I would have to buy it on a resale). But after I own anywhere, then I can buy add-ons at any resort anywhere or at least go on the waitlist for those points. So I am not competing with non-members for waitlisted points.

If this were not the case, wouldn't they still have models and sales centers at all the resorts? Is my understanding wrong? :confused3

just got "the call" yesterday from my guide after waiting about 60 days for my resale purchase to go thru! We're in the system!! Seems the sellers were getting divorced, etc. but The Timeshare Store did a great job tracking them down and getting signatures.

Last year when we talked to Disney, I already knew from these boards that I could get on a w/l at OKW where we wanted to buy through Disney. My guide admitted that, but ALWAYS pushed SSR...I think some guides won't even tell you the sold-out resorts are available, but they are. So, we went the resale route anyhow and got a very small contract instead, so we can then add on through Disney anytime...which should be soon...

No, you can buy directly through Disney as a first time member at any DVC resort. You still will have to purchase the minimum 150 points though as a new member. As long as Disney has the available points in their inventory, you can purchase any resort as a new member. If they don't have the points available, you can ask to be put on a waitlist. Then as ROFR points become available, your Guide will notify you when they become available in your Use Year.

Guides often won't tell you that because their priority is selling the current available resort. However, if you tell your guide that the only way you will purchase is to buy at the resort that you want, they will usually try to be very helpful and accomodating.

If they aren't helpful, or tell you otherwise, ask to be assigned to a different guide and tell them why.

Thany you for the clarification. However, it is unlikely that we would have purchased new direct from Disney anyway. We bought a 200 pt resale for $70 pp at HHI and it came with full current and next year pts. I understand the add-on rate (or new member rate at all except SSR) from Disney is $95.00 pp so I figure we're about $5,000 to the good and got the resort I wanted. We will probably us that money to buy more points.... got to try and avoid add-on-itis!!

In some cases, it's going to depend on how many points you want/need to buy.

For example, if DVC has 75 BCV points for an August use year "in stock", I doubt they will hold them until they have 150 so that a new member could get them. I think even if the new member is first on the list, a DVC member who is lower on the list who wants 75 poitns or less and has an August uyse year would get the points.

Bes wishes -

We got our BWV points from Disney last June with no wait list, first time buyer.

This is exactly what my guide told me 2 weeks ago. I wanted 120 BWV points and she said since I didn't need Disney financing if I was willing to accept several smaller contracts, I would get my points faster than anyone else on the list who only wanted one big contract. It sounded like the fact that I would accept several smaller contracts and that I wasn't needing financing were the 2 most important points. I got my first 50 points in 2 days and am waiting for the other 70 points in any size contracts now, all UY April. So yes, you will bump others on the list if you are flexible.

1) Yes, non-members can get on the sold-out reort waitlist.
2) Somtimes the Guide will not tell you this.
3) They are on BIG, BIG commission and want the sale NOW.
