My husband is a huge college football fan (especially the TN Vols). He is trying to make sure he is set up to watch football while we are at the Fort.

1. Does the cable lineup include the SEC Network? We are guessing no, but I thought I would ask to make sure.

2. How is Verizon service at the Ft? We will be taking our Apple TV and using an iPad as a hot spot and it is on Verizon. From what I have read the internet the Fort provides is not the best.

It is almost time to load the camper and head to Disney!!

Tell your husband I said Go Vols!

No SEC Network on the cable. I had NO trouble streaming any of the ESPN services on my tablet through Verizon while at the Fort. This of course eats your data.... but no coverage issues.

I was also able to stream games over Wifi from the porch of Crockett's Tavern.

Always had great service on Verizon at the Fort and WDW.

Thanks for the info! My husband is not really a Disney guy. I at least want him to be able to watch a little football while we are there.

Internet sucks at the fort no wifi at sites. If you have an air card that would be good but not for loading pics. You can rent a modem at the fort that is what I do when I need Internet. You can always go to the boardwalk and go to the espn sports bar to watch the game. Oh no sec network. I think direct tv has sec network.

I guess I should have said awful instead of it sucks. Could not think of that word at time of post, sorry.

Sounds like the Verizon service works well at the Fort. I have AT&T and I was pleased with the throughput back in March (loop 400). I tethered my smartphone to my laptop to participate in a live group trip report (it was fun there were about 5 of us there at the same time posting into the same big live trip report). So I didn't need or use a cable modem from Disney.

I also used my phone to take pix during the trip and uploaded them to photobucket with the Android app and even pasted a few pix and updates with my thumbs while in the parks.

Streaming video will eat into your data plan but it should work. There are free WIFI hotspots at the Fort at the 2 trading posts, the checkin building, and Trails End (porch area is popular) but it is slow because it's free.

I used to work in Knoxville 30 yrs ago and went to several games so as long as they're not a threat to Bama, I'll pull the Vols whenever they play.

Bama Ed

PS here is that live trip report thread - it was a lot of fun as I said. My inputs were either smartphone or phone tethered to the laptop... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3252856

PPS the Fort does have ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and all the ESPN main channels so DH should be able to find a game to watch sometime...

Just from my experience, if I use an air card it is slow especially for photos, if I rent there modem it is ok. When I have tried at the outpost I find it works sometimes and sometimes not. There is no wifi at sites.
How do you connect to Internet at your site I would like to know maybe I could try your way? Thanks :)

How much is it rent a modem? I take it the cabins are wired?

I just get the modem and bring a wifi router with me. Once its connected up in the corner of the RV, and since its my router and all my devices know the wireless ID, I can get good through put 90% of the time even for stuff like streaming or pulling movies down off my itunes. While summer time it may not be as easy, when I go I have always been able to get a reasonable enough signal for DirecTV that I had all my normal channels and used Disney park cable for local channels plus weather.

I use a wifi hotspot on verizon when at the fort. It is really hit or miss. Some parts of the day, the connection is very fast, while other times, you can hardly use it. This is a 4g device, and sometimes, speeds aren't even as good as standard 3g. It has nothing to do with signal strength. It is usually 2-3 bars all over, but if enough people are hitting a cell tower at the same time, speeds will degrade. With wifi not being readily available, more people are using the cell network. Even if they aren't on the same carrier. Most towers are just leased by the carriers and will carry multiple carriers on them, so an individual tower can get overloaded easily.

Also, a good idea is to print out the fort's tv channel lineup before going. It's a little different than most of the other resorts, and the guide you get on one of the channels is for the standard lineup at the other resorts. I know next time that's a mistake I'll rectify before leaving.

Thanks for the information on the channel lineup. We will be sure to print it out before we leave.

Modems are free, with a deposit.

Thanks.

Good call on bringing a wifi router. Will have both our phones, and probably both the laptop and iPad.

There are some nice compact travel ones these days. Though I just kept an old linksys wireless G router from way back. I have faster wifi at home, but I find G to be enough at the fort since its usually just to read some forums, try to post some pictures and stream if nothing good is on.

Hoping I can pick up a travel one or see if anyone I know has an extra one. If I end up w a regular size router I'll probably check it w the bags, don't feel like lugging that around through the airport.

Well ended up buying a small compact travel Wi-Fi router from Amazon. Tested it and set all the devices before we left. So you knew Murphy's Law would kick in. Cabin has Wi-Fi in it. :) Not sure if all cabins have Wi-Fi or if mine is say for a few surrounding cabins
