I have a new Dell 19 inch LCD and was wondering what good settings were (screen saver and power down) for an LCD to prolong it's life. This is my first one. I currently have the power saver set for 30 minutes and the screen saver set to 10 minutes.

Thanks!

Just subbing, I don't know the answer. I have a 19" LCD too. Isn't it beautiful? :teeth:

At home the power saver is set for 15 minutes. At work it is 5 minutes. I do not have a screensaver at home and they do not allow screensavers at work.

Oh yeah! Big change from my 17 inch CRT!

That surprises me a bit! Where I worked, we were required to have a screensaver enabled with a password. In fact, we were supposed to manually start the ss if we knew we would be more than a minute or two. Mail & documents were supposed to be p/w protected too.

If anyone is interested in a nice Disney screensaver, Disneykingdom.com has a patriotic one that is VERY nice!

BTW - I use the same settings as Elwood Blues. However, I only have the 15" Dell flat panel. :( But aren't they terrific?? :teeth:

It may be personal screen savers that aren't allowed. That's the way it is where I work. The threat of virus-ridden screen savers is too high.

So instead of seeing shots of WDW all day, I get to see images of train tracks.

Gotta love a flat screen! What clarity, what color! And a lot less space!! :teeth: Do I make a good walking advertisement or what? :teeth:

Thanks!!!

I've set it power off in 30, screen saver (blank) in 10.

Your settings sound pretty good... Mine goes to screen saver in 10 minutes, power save in 15.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Dell 19" Flat Panel! It really seems bigger than a 19" traditional monitor, and the small footprint gives you such great flexibility with placement.

The quality of the image is quite nice, too. :sunny:

(Actually, Pin Wizard, a "flat screen" is a traditional crt monitor with a flat rather than curved screen. A "flat panel" monitor is the smaller footprint LCD monitor...)

I don't think the flat panel monitors suffer from screen burn like the old type monitors.
That means that I don't think it's necessary to worry about screen savers as a way of protecting your monitor from screen burn type of damage.
