Hey gang! Merry Christmas!

We're watching the Christmas parade on TV today. Can people who were there for it give me the low down?

I cant imagine they ran the parade itself over and over. Did they run it straight through or spread it way out to set up shots?

How about all the reports and additional performances? How did they do that?

Did you have to sit around all day while they filmed?

Enquiring minds want to know!

Wasn't lucky enough to be there but since I work in TV I can tell you a few things...The remote parts are filmed separately and edited in later. They're sometimes called "look-lives" because they're taped but are supposed to "look live". This technique is often used in local news when the anchors pitch to "Steve at Lambeau Field" and Steve says, "hi Mark..." so it looks like they're talking to each other but Steve really shot his part an hour ago.

I know Rascal Flatts shot their performance at Disneyland about two weeks ago.

In regards to the performances in the parade, they have quite a few cameras so unless something went majorly wrong (like Wayne Brady falling off the float or something) they can edit together a performance piece for the show based on only running it once.

We were at the Magic Kingdom on Friday, December 5, and they were filming Raven on the float. We didn't stick around, so I'm not sure what else was filmed that day. From what I understand, they were also filming on Saturday, the 6th.

The filming was spread out over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You should have noticed some of the shots where the sky was grey and gloomy. That was Friday. The clear blue skies were Saturday and Sunday.

I was there for the sunny Sat taping. In the AM, we stayed to watch the Santa float and Clay Aiken singing. The performers would be all cheery and happy when the music was going and cameras were taping...then "cut!" and everyone stopped. The reindeer, characters, floats, etc. all moved back the 50 feet they had covered and would start over again. It was funny seeing them all so happy and giddy and then when not rolling, all the characters just kinda stood around and looked bored. Definintely was not exciting enough to keep us in the park; we went to Downtown Disney instead. I think Clay Aiken was lipsyncing b/c it sounded exactly the same each time, and on TV today it was pretty obvious-- he couldn't keep his lips to the music.

Was fun getting a glimpse of how parade filming works, but was a major pain if you didn't know filiming was going on that day. Security was pushy. :(

Regis and Kelley were taping their commentary on Sunday the 7th when we were there. They still had a few float segments they were taping as well. Only one float section at a time came down Main Street when we were there...all taped/cut/pasted together in the editing room!

The Wayne Brady/Tarzan section was filmed Friday morning at MK, as we were entering the park while they were filming it.

We were at Disneyland in mid-November when they were filming George Lopez's spots for the parade. It was just days after the flooding and hail in the Compton and Watts areas in LA.

Security was indeed high and made it difficult to navigate the park. The entire front of the castle was blocked off. We were in Tomorrowland and had to either walk around the Matterhorn and Fantasyland, or take the train to get to the other side of the park.

When you watch the parade on TV, you will notice people on camera were wearing wristbands, we didn't arrive in time to be part of that group. You will also see that there is a lack of red and green attire in the crowd. On Christmas Day, I always wear red.

The floats kept making the loop around the center circle where the small statues are, while Mr. Lopez was filming cutaways to Jessica Simpson. It was a beautiful day. Blue sky and sunshine. In reality, Christmas Day in California was rather damp and dreary.

We saw Mr. Lopez later that day. He was having a private lunch at the Vineyard restaurant. It made our trip more interesting.

It was supposed to be all filmed on Fri and Sat, the 5th and 6th, but Regis and Keli were stuck in NY with the snow storm, so their parts were filmed on Sun the 7th. A call was put out for people to be in the park (MK) on those days to be used as filler and background in the filming.

I have a question about this- I have a friend who says she was at Disney World from Dec. 11th-14th, and got an invitation to be part of an early morning taping at the Magic Kingdom on one of those days. Was any more taping in fact done during the week after the 7th? I hadn't heard about any taping done that late, but she says it happened.

I saw on another thread that Enrique Iglesis (sp?) was done the following week (Dec 11 or 13???). He sang on the stage in front of the castle.
