Questions for a family of five..........

I'm with all the families of five out there! I wish Disney would make more rooms with access for five people. We are staying at the Yacht Club which has two queen sized beds and a trundle...only problem with a trundle is that usually everyone is trippin all over it on their way to bed! also my 16 year old is over 6 ft tall so sleeping in the trundle is not an option so the twins fight over it. We stayed at Aligator Bayou at Dixie Landings 3 years ago and had the same set up...very snug! GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN! Helen

I agree with all of you. We wanted to stay on site but the cost was just more than we wanted to spend. Since we are driving down we won't be needing transportation so we decided to stay at Sierra Suites. The room has two queen beds and a sleeper sofa, and a kitchen for $65 per night. Next year we hope to stay on site, maybe we'll rent a camper and stay at FW.

we stayed at the Best Western near DD, The room was big enough to easily handle 5. It had 2 double beds and a pull out couch. We even had plenty of room for a crib. We got a rate of $39 anight but that was a few years ago. Busses are not that great but they get you to where you want to go. Its a nice, short walk to DD. We did that quite a bit. Hey, as a Travel Agent I resent those remarks! Really, the agents run into the same wall you guys do, there just aren't many cheap options for families of 5 on property. Dosen't excuse them from trying though!

I give my clients the two room option as just one of the ways they can stay on-site. I also recommend properties with trundles, Home Away properties, or the Deluxe properties. If none of those appeal, the only thing is to start looking off site.

My vavorite site for 5 (being a 5 family myself!) is the Wilderness cabins or the Villas at Ft. Wilderness. I love the feel of the forest all around, and it's soooooo quiet! You really feel like you're in the middle of nowhere! Yes, it is a bit more expensive, but with the kitchens you can help make up for it by all the meals you can do on your own instead of eating out. If you can do 1 meal a day in the cabin, a family of 5 could save at least $45 a day. Two meals, you could easily save a $100 a day. Multiply that by length of stay, even given the cost of food you buy to eat at the cabin, you save a bundle!

Well Chicago, you must be one of the GOOD travel agents. The ones I've talked to act like there is just no place on Earth that could possibly sleep 5 or more in one room. Travel agents need to recognize that this is an unmet need out there. I think that a travel agent who focused on placing "larger" families (although I don't consider a family of 5 to be so large) would carve out a terrific niche for himself or herself.

At least WDW has several options. As far as I know, at DLP the only options for onsite hotels are cabins WITHOUT Disney transportaion available, or special "family" rooms in the Newport hotel which are very expensive and of which there are very few.

Well, Travel Agents are just like any other profession, there are good one and bad ones. There are bad dentists, hair stylists, lawyers, cashiers--you name it! Anyway, if you find a good agent, keep 'em, we are worth our weight in gold! The amount of time, frustration and money we can save you is surprising!

Well, enough tooting my own horn....
