Questions - Bought DVC while oneboard Wonder.. and now am getting cold feet

No way!! :) We bought AKV in June but changed our minds. We are so glad, too cause BLT is way better for us!
Great!! Ok BLT owners, what floor is the bridge/walkway over to the Contemporary? Is the number of floors 15? How far of a walk is it to the TTS?:goodvibes

it's the 5th floor of blt, which lines up with the 4th floor of cr. I believe it is 15 floors.

Thanks Tara! Ok, one more! Is the maintenance of the monorail the responsibilites of BLT owners? Another words, do the maintenance fees owners pay contribute towards the maintenance of the monorail?

I've read that this is the case but don't know if it's true.

DVC owners pay for everything that takes place at their resort and also membership items. All operations items along with, buses, boats, monorail, security, front desk, concierge, mousekeepers, roof repair, dock repair, pool repair, paint inside and out, MS, MS accounting, website, phone system, electricity, computer systems, etc.

I guess what I'm wondering is how much of an expense will it be in relation to MF's for BLT owners? Are we only talking a fractional portion, as the monorail is shared? I think BWV's MF's are higher than BCV's due to maintenance for the boardwalk.

We love DVC - but I can see where it would not be for everyone:

The physical address for the office is:

Disney Vacation Club
200 Celebration Place
Celebration, FL 34747

Hope this helps ease your mind.

Like others have said -- I personally believe DVC to be completely honest.

My Guide counseled me on our purchase -- but let the product speak for itself.

so i called back, and was told to fax a letter, and then call back in three days to make sure it was cancelled. I hate when you are not given the same info by different people... such a pain, and extra work for everyone.

she also would not give me a mailing address for a letter.

We signed up for 320 points on the Nov 8 Disney Magic and cancelled after 5 days (after learning about DVC on these boards we decided we weren't going to use DVC to trade and only needed 100 points - we're waiting on a resale contract for 100 points at BCV to go through ROFR). You should cancel - the matching developer points aren't worth it if you've purchased too many points. You can always sign up later under some other promotion or buy fewer points resale.

The cancellation clause and instructions can be found on the last page of your PURCHASE AGREEMENT (on page 10 for us) which you should have been given a copy of on-board. To quote, "You may cancel this contract without any penalty or obligation within 10 calendar days after the date you sign this contract or the date on which you receive the last of all documents required to be provided to you pursuant to Section 721.07(6), Florida Statutes, whichever is later. If you decide to cancel this contract, you must notify the developer in writing of your intent to cancel. Your notice of cancellation shall be effective upon the date sent and shall be sent to Disney Vacation Development, Inc., Attention: Membership Administration at 200 Celebration Place, Celebration, Florida 34747. Your notice of cancellation may also be sent via facsimile to 407-938-4121."

So, you can mail it or fax it. Just a phone call won't do it. We typed up a simple letter and sent it with delivery confirmation. Our full deposit and closing costs (placed on a visa) were refunded 9 days after we sent out letter. Good luck!

As far as trading out, go look at buying a Marriot timeshare, but do so resale as there's quite a price difference between buying direct and not.

As a Marriott owner you'll be able to join II as an individual owner and can use their "Getaways". These are weeks that become available that you can use, often for less than what the annual maintenance fee alone would be.

Marriott does distinguish between those who buy direct and those who buy resale. I don't remember all the differences but I think one is that resale buyers cannot convert their week into Marriott Points to use at regular Marriott hotels. So this would restrict you to trading only to MVC resorts, or out into any II resort.

You could also look at Hilton (HGVC) or Hyatt or any number of other timeshares, if your primary interest is trading power.

As mentioned, using DVC to use mostly for trading is not the best route. DVC works best for staying at DVC resorts.

I am an attorney and while I am glad to hear that Disney is flexible on canceling notice, Follow advice of previous poster. Do exactly as YOUR contract states. Make sure the fax # you faxed it to is the same as the one in your contract. I would also mail it to the address in the contract, Certified Mail/return reciept. There is no such thing as ovekill when this much money is involved. I am shocked they would not give you an address on the phone. Re: your guide being unavailable, it may have been to stall your cancellation, but most likely it was to give your guide the chance to talk you into not cancelling. Either way getting close to the end of that 10 days is dangerous unless you have followed the contract word for word.

Mail a letter stating you want to cancel. Get a receipt that you mailed it. I have traded with RCI for 10 years (not with DVC). Trades to Europe at prime times in prime spots are hard to get. AS others have said, many feel that DVC is a VERY expensive trader. Also, I would want to wait a year or so with DVC-RCI switch and see how it pans out before I bought DVC with the idea of trading on a regular basis.

I also agree with others, and would buy DVC to mainly stay at DVC. Elaine

If trading is an issue, is selling points for cash for years you want to vacation elsewhere an economical option considering maint fees?

Do you mean making reservations for others and them paying you for the reservation OR transferring points to other members? Lots of members do both of those, but it may take work, especially if you haven't done it before. There are a lot of inexperienced owners and non-owners out there who don't fully understand the process.

If you're only going to do that once in awhile, it's reasonable. If you plan to vacation at Disney every other year, or every three years, a better option would be to buy a much smaller amount of points and use banking and borrowing.

For instance, if you know you'll need 200 points for your stay in a 1 bedroom, every other year, you'd buy a 100 point contract, and bank the points in the off-year.
