Questions about VWL

Ok I am getting really excited about our recently booked trip to VWL in May. I have some questions for those of you who are familiar with the resort.

1. Is the toilet in a separate room to the shower in a 1 bed? It was at SSR and it effectively meant 2 people could be using the bathroom at once. With a DH like mine who takes an hour to get ready in the morning this is helpful.

2. Where can you refill the refillable mugs?

3. Does the pool bar sell food like the one at BC does, or is it just drinks?

4. Is the self parking located in a convenient place or is it much easier to valet?

5. I hear lots of recommendations for AP. I would like to go there but the menu is a bit sophisticated for me! I like plain food, do you think you can get plain steak or chicken if you request in advance. Not big on fish or game but would like to eat there.

6. I saw a pic of a playground on the beach. Are there any other play areas for little ones?

Thanks so much for any help.

I will try my best to answer as many of your questions as possible.

1. I cant speak for a 1 bed because we have never stayed in one at VWL,but the 2 bed dedicated had toilet in same room as shower. The whirlpool and vanity were in a seperate room though. At SSR, the 1 bed has a really nice setup. That has been our only 1 bed experience.

2. At Roaring Forks. You can get there through the main lodge or around the back by the pool area.

3. We have never purchased food there, but I remember seeing a menu there while walking by. (Dont hold me too this, Im 40 now, so I have an excuse ;) ) I think they get the food from Roaring Forks.

4. The walk is not that bad. But being a DVC member, that valet parking service sure is nice to take advantage of.

5. Never eaten there but all Disney sitdowns will cook as you like. Just remember this is a pricey restaurant so it may be an expensive meal for plain food. WCC is a fun meal and not way out there as far as being exotic. AP is a place on our list to try, but without kids.

6. Not aware of other play areas. FW has good areas if you dont mind the short boat ride over.

VWL is a great resort, take in all it has to offer. We love it!

Have Fun!

I 'll answer a couple of your questions.

1. I think it depends. Its seems like we had some conversation on this board one day about the "toilets"! ;) Someone commented on the type of door that was on their toilet room, our 2 bed. unit had no seperate toilet area, but because of this person's comments, I think some of them may. You are right about SSR's bathroom setup, it is better to have the toilet in a seperate area.

4. We tend to always valet at VWL, it's just easier than self parking. But if you want to self park, it is really not that far.

5. Other than the playground on the beach, I don't remember any more kids play areas. They do have the cubs den, supervised babysitting if you want to leave your kids while having a meal or something. I think you can also go in mid day, and make a craft with your child. They also have the kiddie pool, by the main pool. And as Jimmytammy has pointed out, there is a lot of kid friendly stuff at fort Wilderness.

Have a great trip! The Lodge is our families favorite!

I didn't care for Artists Point. My husband liked it a lot, but I had a hard time finding something that I really wanted to eat at the prices they offered. I like Boma, so I'm not totally picky. There was too much "wild" food at AP.

We haven't eaten at AP either. But we really liked Whispering Canyon. It's a show and a meal. The kids liked riding their ponies around the restaurant. And bringing everyone ketchup.

My 12 year old liked the arcade. We liked roaring forks also. The playground was OK but my 5 year old lost interest she loved the pool. :flower:

Hi Debbie, the showers at SSR are the same. You have to turn it on and quickly get up the other end of the cubicle to avoid standing in the cold spray!

Another quick VWL question.

I noticed from some pictures that a few rooms on the top floor (floor 5?) at VWL have balconies that stick out of the roof. Are these rooms really dark? I cannot imagine you can see much if you are sitting down. We had a dormer room at GF once, it was ver dark, I did not like it at all.
