HI! We are thinking about doing a week at Vero, but I have a few questions.

First off, is Vero a good swimming beach, or is it rough?

Is the water really cold in the spring?

Also, are there months that it is really hard to book a 1 bedroom there at the 7 month window? I think we'll probably go in February, March or April usually. We'll be flexible on the exact week...

TIA!

I don't like waves....

so I didn't even try to go swimming in that ocean.

(at HH the same ocean is much tamer)

I hated it so much that I sold my VB and brought another timeshare on the panhandle (gulf side).

Hello, CNMooner. Yes, people can and do swim in the ocean at the Vero Beach Resort.
That being said, it's not the best ocean to swim in, as it can get rough. There are also reports of strong rip tides in that area.

We absolutely love the Vero Beach Resort. We find the resort to be a destination in itself, with little need to venture off property.
If your looking for an active, bustling town, VB may not be for you. It's a quiet area.
We enjoy walking the beach, hanging by the pool, and of course The Green Cabin Room. We do leave property for some of our dinners.

Have fun! :drinking:

Tacked on a short Vero stay in March, after WDW...my husband liked it because it was quiet, i did NOT like it because I have stayed at beach-y places every bit as nice that are closer to where we live and when we were there, most of the beach was GONE at high tide! We had a nice time, of course, and did enjoy having a glass of wine in the bar overlooking the ocean...it just did not "wow" me enough that I would ever travel that far just to be there. Prefer Hilton Head (DVC) or Wild Dunes near Charleston(for a non-DVC experience!) Oh, by the way, the water at Vero was definitely warm enough in March for a swim.

We really enjoyed our stay at Vero three years ago. My favorite part was my hour long walk down the beach right before dinner, while it was still light out. :goodvibes

Strong swimmers can enjoy swimming at VB. I would never allow young kids to swim unless I was right beside them because it can get rough.

We have been in August and the water temp "I swear" was 68 degrees. Something about a swell?? The life guard was explaining it to us. All I know is it was cold and we didn't get in the ocean much that trip.

We always book in June, July, and August and we have had no difficulty boking two bedrooms. From what I have read the winter months are the busier months.

I have to differ. Admittedly I grew up and still live at the ocean in Long Island, N.Y., but I've been to Vero numerous times and have yet to see any conditions that compare to what I'm used to. Granted that it IS the ocean and conditions change constantly, but there certainly isn't anything intimidating about the surf in Olaf's picture a few posts up. As to the temp...again, being from N.Y. I have no hesitation in jumping into the Florida waters at any time of the year.
V.B. is a great resort (my favorite) and you'll have a great time there. If you're hanging on the beach and the surf looks a bit much for you... you're only a few steps away from the heated pool.
To CCW: The VB beach is MUCH, MUCH wider since the hurricanes did their work. Give VB another shot. I think you'll approve.

Clearly that would all depend on chance. As you said it's the same ocean. I've seen the waves off the Carolina's get pretty intense at times. (and Cape Hatteras is well known as an area of turbulent water)
I'm a sailor, and can tell you that waves are directly related to winds. No wind, no waves. Big winds, big waves.
Despite the above....if you really HATE waves, your odds are improved on the Gulf side.
