I have always wanted to stay at the grand california. We have 3 adults and 3 kids with us.

1.) Could we all fit in one villa? By the way we dont mind squishing. We almost always book a 5 person room and put 6.
2.) Is it cheaper to rent points and stay at the villa then stay at the grand california.
3.) Do you think it would be worth it to stay there only one night if that is all we could afford and stay at a good neighbor hotel the rest of the time?

Thanks for the help. I am new to the board and love it thus far. Everyone has been great at helping me plan and figure things out.

HI, we are DVC members and just recently stayed at the VGC for 1 night. Personally, I would absolutely recommend staying, even if it's only for 1 night. It will however, make you want to come back.
We stayed at Paradise Pier 1 night, and then moved over to the VGC due to not being picked off the wait list, but it still was worth it to us. I think it would also be more cost effective for you to rent points, as long as you can find some reasonably priced. Night are going for $450 appx., and it seems like you would need 2 rooms. You can get a 1 bedroom Villa that comfortably sleeps 5 (plus 1 in your case) for less. I have one booked for Thanksgiving weekend for 34 points for the night. If you could find points for about $12 each, you would be looking at around $408. Significantly less.... and with a full kitchen, you could potentially save even more..... Good luck with whatever you choose, and you will enjoy your stay there.

Renting points to stay in DVC accommodations is a great option.

How old are the kids? Squeezing six into a one bedroom would be tough if the kids are older. You could probably rent points for a two bedroom and still save money depending on the time of year you are trying to book.

Thanks for info. The Kids are 9, 11 and 13. I will look at maybe a two bedroom villa. I just assumed it would be out of our price range. I am looking for mid december so I am hoping the crowds are not to bad. The 9 year old still ends up squeezing in with his parents even at home. Hence the need for only room for 5.

That depends on the size of villa that you have. A studio really can only sleep four. I think putting six in there would be very crowded. A one bedroom can officially sleep 5 and I think there is plenty of room if you brought a sleeping back for the sixth. I think, however, that you need to be careful about what you tell the front desk. I think they would object to putting six in a room for five. A two bedroom easily sleeps nine.

Again, depends on the size of the villa and the time of year you're going. David's Vacation Club Rentals rents for $15 per point. You might be able to find people willing to rent for less.

There are some advantages of staying at the VGC, one of which is being able to get early entry into DCA to pick up World of Color Fast Passes, and then start on the other attractions (e.g. Toy Story Mania) before the park opens.
