Questions about using ECV (knee surgery recovery)

Trying to plan ahead here in case this comes to pass...

DH is having knee surgery and should be healed in time for our trip. But, if he's not quite there or all the walking becomes too difficult for him, we may rent him a wheelchair or ECV.

My question is, if we do this, is it necessary to also get a GAC? Not sure if you must have one or not. Also, would we simply approach the ride, greet the CM at the entrance and wait for instructions on where to go and how to transfer? It will be the four of us: me, DH, two DDs. I wish I could remember better, but I'm having difficulty remembering if ECVs are allowed in the regular line and the FP lines.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experiences with using a wheelchair or ECV. I really appreciate it!

We were just at DL 2 weeks ago. My SIL has some health issues that make a lot of walking difficult for her, so my brother got her an ECV. She did not have a GAC. We usually just went to a CM to find out where to go. Even though there were 9 of us, we all got to go together, usually without waiting. The only time we waited was for TSM because the lines are wheelchair or ECV friendly--meaning you wait in line with everyone else and just scoot along.

Hi!

I use an ECV at Disneyland as I can't walk well and have standing issues. Long story, but I have used one for about 5 years now and about 7 trips!

First off, you do not need to get a GAC card if you have a wheelchair or ECV.

At DL, most of the handicap accessibility is through the exits. DCA was designed so that wheelchairs and ECV's can use the regular lines. When you enter the park in the morning, they have a small brochure available for you that will tell you exactly where to go for each ride, parade, show, etc... It is very helpful!

I did notice that on my last trip, Star Tours was a bit different. Instead of going directly to the exit as before, we had to stop at the front of the ride and get a special fastpass. it had a time on it where we could then go to the exit.

Enjoy your trip!!!
