Hey all! I was told the Camping board would be the best place to get some information on the Cabins @ Ft. Wilderness. We usually stay off site at a time share condo & we have stayed on site but never here.... I will be going for 3 nights, 4 days in Mid-October.... We are celebrating my DD 1st Birthday, my Step-Son's 14th & my Step-Daughters 10th B-day (yep.. All October babies)

1. Parking - I know you can park in front of your Cabin - is there a car limit? Do they have some centralized parking? Reason I ask is, we have various family members coming that weekend and want to kind use our resort as a centralized point. Like meet at our Cabin then take the transport to the parks.

2. Is there a MK bus or is the only way to go via Disney Transport is ferry boat?

3. Golf Carts - how much does Disney charge to rent? I went to the private sites suggested and they are for weeklong rentals. Is it worth it to get a cart? In theory we can park for free in park, so do we need it?

4. Would a family of 5 feel comfortable in the space? Where is there space for a pack-n-play... should I just sleep with baby in living room?

5. Is the view of the MK fireworks from the beach great?

Thank you for your help ahead of time!

One car in front of the cabin. There is a parking lot at the front of the resort where your guests can park.

The fastest way to go to MK is to go by the Motor Launch from the marina, HOWEVER, if you get on the Orange Settlement Bus from your cabin and stay on once you get to Settlement Depot, the bus will then proceed to Wilderness Lodge. You can then change buses and take a bus from WL to Magic Kingdom

3. Golf Carts - how much does Disney charge to rent? I went to the private sites suggested and they are for weeklong rentals. Is it worth it to get a cart? In theory we can park for free in park, so do we need it?
It is almost $65.00 per day to rent directly from Disney. Yes it is true, most of the offsite companies prefer 4 nights or more for their rentals. Yes you can drive to the parks, however, I would recommend the boat to MK, don't have to deal with tram, then monorail or ferry after parking. What you might consider is just renting from Disney for 1 day. The rental is from around noon till 11am the next day. You can then use that one day to use the golf cart to tool around the campground and visit all the halloween decorations and go to the pool that afternoon and the movie that night!!

4. Would a family of 5 feel comfortable in the space? Where is there space for a pack-n-play... should I just sleep with baby in living room? I've seen pictures of the pack & play at the foot of the bunkbeds, but then it blocks the vanity in the bedroom (or the TV, I forget which). Yeah, I would put the two older ones back in the bedroom and let them have the TV back there, Or perhaps one of the older ones on the Murphy Bed out front, mom & dad in the bedroom, baby on the bottom bunk with a bed rail, and one of the older ones on the top bunk.

5. Is the view of the MK fireworks from the beach great?

It is really good!! You see everything except for the fireworks right at the castle and most nights they pipe in the music.

Thank you for your help ahead of time!

Hope this helps!!!

If I were you, I would put the big kids in the bunks and the pack-n-play in the living room. The Murphy Bed is the same size as the big bed in the bedroom, so you and DH can flip for it! ;)

You might be able to do the PNP in the bedroom - but there is actually more room between the beds than at the foot of the bunks - you will lose a lot of space. If you do it in the LR, you can fold up the Murphy Bed during the day and still have plenty of room.

Oh, and you are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fort! We did our first stay this summer in a cabin and it was AWESOME!

Okay, so that's just my two cents...

All of your questions were answered very well by clkelley. I want to add to the 2 above:

We went as a family of 5 back in 2004. The cabins are very comfortable except don't try to put 2 people into that one bed in back. I was on the wall side and had no room to even turn over. Might have been becuase the DH back then was a bed hog :rotfl:

Don't forget about watching the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach. To a kid, it's magic at it's very essence to hear the music and see those lights pop up out of nowhere (disclaimer: for safety they might keep the lights running now as they tug the barges along between resorts) Anyway, to those who have high expectations the show is cheesy, but to kids, and those who have a kid's spirit within - it's a must see. :goodvibes

I wouldn't describe the Water Pageant as "cheesy", in fact my DW and I look forward to seeing it every time we stay at the Fort. :thumbsup2 You might like the show, you may not (although, I think most people like it very much judging by the crowds in the past on the beach)

We're a family of 6, and we loved the cabin. We put the pack-n-play between the bunk beds and the double bed. We moved the sidetable to the foot of the double bed. It worked perfectly.
Definitely take the boat to the MK. It's a quick, direct, relaxing ride with no exchanges. They bring you right to the MK.
We rented a Disney golf cart for one day, when we spent half a day at the fort (horseback riding, boating, etc.) You really don't need it, but it was fun.
My kids can't wait to go back.
Have a wonderful time. We did!

You should know that I'm not putting down the show, in fact I love it and I hate "cheesy" shows. My earliest memories of camping in Disney are linked with it. But I have heard many, many, many folk over the years comment on it as such.

The closet alcove in the bedroom is the best place for the PnP, IMO. If you don't have long hanging clothes, just put it in there. That's what we always do. There isn't a door to the closet, just a curtain.

We love the EWP. Have a great time!

Found a pic of the PnP in the closet from our last trip.

My appologies if my response to the word "cheesy" could have been misinterpreted. I simply wanted to express another viewpoint. No harm, no foul intended. :)

Love the closet idea good use of space. We will be using the PNP with my youngest daughter so I will definately give that a shot. My oldest is beyond ecstatic to stay in the bunk beds. :rotfl:

We stayed in the cabin last year and put the PnP in the closet as well. It works perfectly. Just be aware that it can be a little dark in the closet but we used a night light and solved that problem. My son preferred the dark.

Sorry late to answer but if you put the pack n play you block your acess to the safe in the closet. However that is a handy spot but we put it at the end of the dobble bed blocking the second doorway and it was never in the way. Have a great trip.
