Questions about splash mountain

One day I rode SM 5x in one day. 4x came off dry. 5th time got fairly wet.

I've never ever been bothered by the drop. Really it happens so quickly that I never find it bad. You get such a lovely view of the park and the Contemporary from the top I'm usually gazing at that during the drop.

When are you going? Maybe you won’t have to worry about it..wdwinfo says SM will be down for refurbishment till 11/16/2017 and again 1/8/2018 - 2/1/2018 .. hope that’s wrong or I’ll be missing it completely.

Seriously?? Pirates has a small dip, which is barely noticeable. Splash has a much longer (straight-down) drop. Geesh!

Splash’s drop is more than 3 times the height of Pirates’, so it seems pretty different to me too.

Splash is not straight down.

I didn't say it's the same height because it's not..I said it's no worse in terms of intensity. Pirates drop gets my stomach more because it's in the dark.

I agree that darkness can alter people's sensory perceptions. (Which is why I'm bothered by the smaller, interior drop in SM.) I also agree that most people will experience the Splash drop as being more intense than Pirates.

Now the Disneyland Pirates' drop, on the other hand...

Came pretty close to happening to me as well.

Does no one else get hit with the water fall after the big drop?

Oh yes. We always get parked right next to that waterfall and my kids know to put me on that side. I often escape getting very wet on the drop only to sit under that dang waterfall for what feels like forever. :umbrella:

Me too! Sit on the left side of the boat if you want to avoid the waterfall!

I have been soaked to the bone on Splash several times, just my shorts wet on others and that dang waterfall will get me very wet. I have never come out completely dry until I started with my poncho routine. Splash is one of my all time favorite rides at WDW!

Please don’t say things like this. It is absolutely possible to get soaked to the bone with every square inch of your clothing dripping with water. It’s happened to me before. It doesn’t happen every time, or to every person. I’m sure there are a lot of factors in play. But it very much can happen and it’s best for people to go in with the knowledge that it could happen.
That's why a lot of people wear ponchos. Most have done it once and got soaked!

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being crazy intense and 1 being a small blip, Splash is a 6 and Pirates a 2.

This coming from a girl who has never once gone on the Tower of Terror because I hate drops with a passion. Can't stand them!

My friend in terror.

I've never been on Tower of Terror. No way. No how.

Pirates is a joke of a drop. Splash? Not so much.

I'm usually too focused on what stupid face I'm going to make for the ride photo to worry much about the 3 second drop. It is TOO good of an attraction to skip only because of the drops. It's over 10 minutes long and 5-6 seconds worth of drops.

Do people seem to frequently wear ponchos on Splash Mountain even when it's not raining? I hate walking around in wet clothes so this might be the only way I'd be willing to go on the ride. But will peoples shoes and socks still frequently get wet even with the ponchos?

We pack away a poncho and flip flops for Splash, Kali River Rapids, and rain. You can get disposable ponchos on Amazon for cheap, and they come in a very small package so you could do a one time wear and throw away. Yes, shoes are at risk if you happen to get hit by a big splash, and you never know when it could happen or where on your body it will land....it could all be focused right on your feet. But it doesn't always happen. I would say more often than not you can get away with not being too overly wet, but there is no guarantee. When it happens, there is no rhyme or reason. It's a gamble.
