Questions about reservation modifications!

Good morning all!

It's been a long time since I've posted anything here (mostly because life has been super crazy!). It's also been a long time since I've been to WDW, so forgive me for needing a little bit of help.

I'm currently planning a trip at POP Century from October 12th-October 22nd of 2025. I realize this is pretty far in advance, but I really like the convenience of being able to pay down my balance and not needing to worry about it when the time comes. However, if for example any package discounts (or anything of the like) came out for those dates, would I be able to modify my reservation and keep the balance I've already paid? Or would I essentially be making a new reservation and waiting to be refunded?

I'd also love to know about MagicBand ordering after I make my reservation -- everything has changed so much and I'd love to know what the process is like now. (The last time I was there, MagicBands came free with resort stays and there was still the magical express from MCO...)

I haven't booked yet but am planning on booking today; I just really would appreciate any help in knowing how modifying an existing reservation would work if I had paid part of the trip off already.

If a discount drops, you can log into your reservation and hit the modify button and search to see if your room type has a discount.

You will be able to modify if not online then by phone if a discount comes out that would apply to your trip.

Once you book and link your resort reservation to MDE you can read for yourself the magic band process and prices and availability etc.

Ok I’ve changed my reservations so many times I think I probably have a note on my account! If you order magic bands they will just transfer over. I ordered mine and completely changed the dates and hotel and they are still good. The website can be hard to modify sometimes on so I prefer to call because the cast members are always amazing and very helpful.

@Goofygirl514 since you have changed your reservations many times, what happened to the balance you'd paid off? Did it transfer to the new reservation?

Yes it transfers. You are MODIFYING not making a new reservation.

There is one exception. If you are attempting to modifying between a Package / Room Only offer the CM can't just transfer between the 2 types of reservations.

This makes a lot of sense! I don't forsee swapping from a package, but I know sometimes they come out with decent package deals (not this far in advance, I know I'm ahead of myself haha). I just didn't want to kick myself in the foot/have money tied up if I needed to edit a reservation, so this is all good stuff to know. Thank you!! ♥

Be careful if you call…I was modifying a room-only to another resort and the CM changed it to a ticketless package.

As others have said, you would be able to get any discount that came out as long as there was availability for your resort and dates. Any amount of money that you have paid toward this reservation will automatically apply to any changes you make as long as the reservation number stays the same. Examples of when a reservation number would change is if you are switching to/from a regular reservation to/from a package reservation or if you cancel your reservation to make a new one. They will not transfer your funds in those two examples.
